Delilah

I was driving the other night and heard the late night love song show Delilah, is this a new show here in Canada? I actually found myself listening to her and enjoying it, was wondering if anyone else has heard it or what they thought on it.

Standard radio picked up the show a few years back for their EZ rock outlets here.
(and other similar formatted stations)
Wether or not the new owner, Astral media wishes to continue to carry the show is anyone's guess.

Coast to coast programming dates back to a time when local in house automation was very costly to run, however there's no reason not to continue with the program if ratings are strong enough to just leave things alone.

Trust me, if there's ways to do things cheaper, without hurting the ratings factor...it'll be done!

The worst thing any station can ever do is drop something (that's "working for them"), only to have their competition pick it up.

In the Toronto market, for example, if Delilah were to be dropped by EZ, would CHFI (FM 98) then proceed to pick it up?...or would they continue to run the Lovers and other Strangers program.
(I think that's what CHFI currently airs durring that time?)

I hope CHFI wouldn't do that. I don't think they would. Don Jackson's "Lover's and Other Strangers" is, in my opinion, a much better show. And...it's local! From conversations I've had with a couple of people inside at CHFI, I think they're pretty happy with what they have, the ratings are apparently very good. I believe if CHFI were ever going to drop "Lovers..." they would have done it a few years ago when they made that huge blunder, firing Erin Davis, bringing in Mad Dog and Billie and changing to more of a hot-AC sound. They tanked after that, so they made a 180 and the ratings have been moving upward since. I doubt they'll make any more big changes for quite some time.

Nobody runs Delilah in London anymore, although it was on CIQM (97.5) for a few years. They now have John Tesh in that time slot, which seems to appeal to a similar group of listeners. The nearest stations carrying it are CHYM 96.7 in Kitchener, and My FM 105.7 in Strathroy.

hmmm...96.7 is a rogers owned station. You mean, instead of Lovers...
It's Delilah there?

Lovers... can be heard in various other markets too, I thought.

Getting back to my original point, Delilah is an American show. I honestly do not know at this point if the plan is to replace her with a Canadain coast to coast program, or if each station will just go back to local automation format to keep costs down. (or respectfully, to just leave things as they are...with Delilah)

"Lovers..." was heard on several other Rogers-owned stations across Canada, but that ended some time ago. I think it's been two or three years ago that this ended. I don't think any stations outside the Rogers group aired it. It's a shame it didn't take off nationally. I think the show is much better than Delilah or John Tesh; plus, it's Canadian. I told Don Jackson that if he could just get on a couple big stations in the US, I think his show would really take off. The problem is, all the big stations are owned by the big corporations and they're already running Delilah, Tesh etc. In the case of Delilah, isn't she a Premier (Clear Channel) show? They're not about to take her off to bring in a competitor. It's a shame what has happened to radio in the US.

New York would have been the big chance...when Fresh FM recently came about.

If they were serious about not being too much like other stations on the dial, Lovers would have seperated them better than a Tesh or Delilah show, since there's already enough of that there...I believe.
(duely noting that I havn't been to NY in a while, and fail to note who carries Tesh and Delilah there normally)
