Delphi XM SKYFI2

I'm thinking about getting the Delphi XM SKYFI2, It says that the product has a built in FM modular that can transmit to any FM radio, I don't know alot about satellite radio, so does this mean that I could but this radio in my living room or bedroom and transmit the signal to a nearby radio, such as a clock radio, etc.? And if so, was is the range that the signal will travel or does the XM radio have to be right next to the radio that your sending the signal to?

Thanks in advance...

Yes. The useful range is usually about 10-15 ft. Past that you start to get static or other quality problems.

not always true. my skyfi transmits almost a half mile!! no kidding!! the other day i was at a gas station. i had my xm on o and a. the guy i work with was at the light turning on the interstate about 1/2 mile away listning to it..! reception in the house isnt quite as good. but i have no problems. no static at all as steely dan would say. also the talk/ sports stations transmit a mono signnal. so they are clear as a bell!!
______________

SMASHEDCD: So, is it safe to say that I should get good reception if I put the SKYFI2 in the same room as the FM radio that I want to send the signal to? Also is there any loss of sound quality? And are the music channels in mono too, or is that just the news/talk/sports channels?

absolutely!! even in other rooms

Also is there any

not enough to tell. direct connect is only slightly better.

And are the music channels in mono

just the talk channels. music is in crystal clear stereo!!

same room, no problem.
adjacent rooms, probably no problem.
Music channels are in Stereo, but the small FM transmitters used in Sat radios and MP3 players do not usually do as well as direct connect on stereo separation, but then you might not notice it that much.

Get one you won't regret it.I have one but there is something you should know about the built in mod.The built in mod will work in the home and car kit but not the boombox for some reason. When I have it on the home kit I can hear it in most rooms in my house.Even when it is in my car I can hear it in my house. Also I've read that people driving behind you can hear it if they tune to the frequency your skyfi 2 is on.Also if it is on the home unit you can actually record it and the skyfi 2 records every song so you can go back to the song if you miss recording it.The home unit is also good with the skyfi 2 if you have a bathroom in your room or close by.You can hear it while taking a shower without worrying about the moisture destroying the skyfi 2 since it is in another room.Besides the advantages of being able to hear it on most radios thru the mod it also has 30 favorite channel presets and the light is bright enough that you can see it in bright sunlight when driving and it extends the titles too.

Are you able to use the original skyfi cradle for home and car. I would love to upgrade.

It's best to keep it in the same room. But depending on the interference around you and availability of clear/unused FM stations the SkyFi2 can use, you can get it to a max of 30 feet. Beyond that is basically out of the question due to interference and broadcast regulations I'm sure.

If you buy the SkyFi2 now, you can get a Roady2 free as part of the DoublePlay promotion XM is running as long as you submit the appropriate paper work and rebate forms - worth the small trouble of doing it if you ask me :)

Yes the original car and home cradle work.It is also compatible with the boombox.I use the original cradle on my home and car setup. It sounds great.

Just got an SF-2 in my taxicab today, haven't had more than a few minutes to play with it, but it appears to address and correct for the known shortcomings of the original SF. Much better display than the original SF, will compare positive view with negative view...suspect one will be better in the day, the other better at night. Defaults to previous state when power is applied...don't need to keep turning it on after starting the engine. No more sixteen character limit, I wonder what the limit is...I will have to check out something classical, like "9th symphony, 2nd movement, opus 15 in Bb major for horns & string quartet & piano acompanyment".

You guys make me sorry I went with the $30 optional direct antenna connection...I felt reliable quality reception outweighed impressing drivers parked next to me, but maybe I could have had both...just don't want passengers to hear splitter splatter...makes a bad impression.
______________

Awesome! An XM-equipped taxi! Just an FYI - the character limit is 32 characters. Still doesn't fit the display for "Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Next to a Broken Phonebooth with Money in My Hand" but it's good enough :p

I have the boom box... anyone else have experience with the FM modulator in the boom box set up?
