Demery Leaves Live 105

I hope we see the Dickey's announce his triumphent return to 99x soon...

As the Afro-American said "N***** please, to compare Sean to Jimmy Baron is an insult to all that ever been on the radio. Demery: Talent Baron: Hack (who fell into a good thing and thought it was him..PUKE)

Jimmy understandably might not be your cup of tea, but there's no denying he was the driving force behind the ten year success of the Morning X...unless you think it was Barnes' creativity and wit, or Leslie's news reading. The only thing I remember about Sean's show was the Swingin' Velveeta Lounge and corny one-liners. You think that's gonna take down the Regular Guys or Bert? Plus, if memory serves me, he's also closing in on 50, which would put he and Leslie right behind Randy and Spiff as the oldest morning show combo in Atlanta. If his return is true, I can't believe 99X was unable to find a morning show with a proven track record to work in a Top 10 market at one of the premier stations in the country. Any thoughts?

Sean Demery would save 99x, if they gave him full creative control of the station.
Due to his sleep apnea, I don't think he will be able to do mornings.
As for the money, the Dickey's are known to be really cheap when it comes to talent.

You're right, Deadman, about Sean being a creative enough programmer to save 99X. Unfortunately the Dickeys will screw this up, and here's how: they'll have him do mornings. Now, I grew up in Atlanta and remember vividly the Sean and Leslie show when 99X first signed on. Sean was HORRIBLE as a morning guy. He HATED doing morning radio (probably for the reason you mentioned). Wasn't that why he switched shows with Barnes?

Sean's a great guy and a very good talent. I used to hang out in the lounge from time to time sharing orange circus peanut candy with other lizards and I learned a lot about the business watching him work. 50 or not, I'd love to see him come back to Atlanta. What do you think of him maybe at Dave in the mornings? Not as expensive as Barnes and Firfir combined and certainly more entertaining. Or if mornings are an issue, bring back the lounge for the drive home at 99X and give him some stripes as previously mentioned.

Do you hear what you're writing? The dude is approaching 50 years old! Radio has no room for persons of that age.

OK - I'm being sarcastic, but that begs the question - maybe even its own thread - Where do radio people go when they grow up? Seems to be a common theme, especially in Atlanta, that persons in their 50's (even 40's) are no longer viable commodities and capable of communicating on the radio. (For the record, my Mom is almost 50 and she still works part-time, has most of her teath, and one original hip!)

Sean is planning on opening a consultancy so he still may be able to save 99x if they were to enlist his services. Then again if they're being beaten by Chris Williams station that was supposed to be a typical clear channel flanker at best, well they may be more inclined to open up the checkbook for someone to save it rather than flip it and jettison the heritage. 99x being one of the few heritage alt stations left and heritage is something that you cannot buy although many companies dont realize the power of heritage calls anymore.
