Demise OF AM Radio

I grew up listening to 1010 WINS (Murray the K), 570 WMCA (The Good Guys), and 710 WOR (Rambling With Gambling), all from NYC. I later listened to 1420 WLNA (Peekskill), and for the last 40 years tuned in to 1490 WKNY Kingston (Warren Lawrence). Now WKNY has begun simulcasting on FM 107.9, with a much clearer signal. It was the last AM station I regularly listened to, and now have no need for an AM tuner at all. I sense that it's the end of an era. Anyone else feel the same way?

It depends where you are. There are still some solid AM stations. Around where I live though, News Talk and Sports Talk has been on FM since the early 00s, and that has left AM with religion, a little bit of classic country and now, a hobby oldies station.

Perhaps it is just me but it seems AM signals as a whole seem to be more viable in areas of better ground conductivity. Naturally the AM needs to be treated and thought of as an asset rather than a burden. I know that sounds simple but it is amazing what attitude can do.
