Democratic National Convention-MSNBC

Chris Matthews and the gang at MSNBC should be having a "love-fest" as the DNC gets underway just as the folks at FOX news were euphoric during last week's RNC.

It will be interesting to compare the ratings for both conventions to see who pulls the larger audience.

Personally I will be watching C-Span for any convention coverage. Those folks at C-Span just air the conventions without any bias double-talk by the anchors and reporters covering those events.

Don't watch MSNBC because Matthews will be outside and Rachel Maddox,Chris Hayes and so on won't be live but in New York and also don't watch Current TV's coverage because Al Gore and so on won't be live. Also MSNBC wouldn't do a preview show on Sunday day before the RNC were to start like CNN and Fox News Channel did.

There is no way MSNBC gets higher ratings than Fox News this week (or in general). Fox News' audience is just that more passionate.

C-SPAN is usually the best for full coverage of everything, so long as they are allowed to set up their equipment and go away.

Oddly enough C-SPAN does not subscribe to Nielsen.

...not passionate at all, just more desperately addicted to the lies ;-) ...

But if you want to watch it in HD, it would have to be on the broadcast networks.

And if they did, it would open up the floodgates for C-SPAN to start broadcasting reality shows, and reruns of movies (e.g. "All The President's Men"). That's exactly what would happen.

While people like love fests they watch conflict. That is why people hate negative ads but they usually work better. MSNBC will be better off revenue wise if the Republicans do well

I like to say thank goodness for C-SPAN! :)

If you're choosing one of the broadcast networks then PBS would be the go-to. Their coverage has to be far less annoying than the other major networks.

Good choice, if it wasn't tape delayed. At least on KRMA in Denver.

Well I'll be dammed. Looks like MSNBC did get the highest ratings last night among cable channels:

And yeah, there is nothing better than watching C-SPAN for conventions.

Are we supposed to be surprised that MSNBC Attracts DNC audiences and Fox Attracts RNC and Tea Party Audiences when it comes to political conventions. Its been the norm for some time.

I don't have cable. Too expensive. I have WGN, a local news channel, a public access channel and the TV Guide Channel just to avoid the problems with antennas, but I don't have the channels that define "cable".

I've been watching PBS so I can see all the prime-time speeches. However, I didn't watch the commentary. What little I saw didn't seem biased.

That would make perfect sense considering that it is most likely people who tend to be Democrats or vote Democrat would tune to MSNBC since that cable network favors that party as the FOX network attracts more conservative-minded people who would vote Republican.

It will be interesting to see, when the conventions are over, which one had the most viewers.

Personally I watched the football game Wednesday night between the Giants and Cowboys and I'm willing to bet more people did that instead of watching Clinton or the DNC.

Yeah Sunday Night Football (NBC) on Wednesday Night! As if my week wasn't messed up enough with Tuesday feeling like Monday. Then all of a sudden, Wwednesday night felt like Sunday night, so am I back to Monday morning????

"It will be interesting to compare the ratings for both conventions to see who pulls the larger audience."

MSNBC has been gaining on Fox in total audience for a while now, as well as leading in the all-important (to advertisers) 18-49 demo cells if you believe A.C. Nielsen. Apparently this week is a breakout week for them since they're now leading Fox in total audience.

How long they can sustain it, who knows? But it does show that we may be seeing a generation gap emerging between Fox's core and MSNBC's, and that could have a lot of impact on their respective balance sheets.

I recorded the RNC off of C-SPAN in San Antonio, while my parents were watching it on KLRN (PBS)
For the DNC I recorded it off KLRU in Austin no C-SPAN (I no longer subscribe to Time Warner's Basic Basic Package which includes C-SPAN)
