Hey Zeb! Come back to Ca and show us some real programming.

I'm as elderly as you, but don't have the interest many here do in the finer (read: smaller, not better) points of KFRC and its many incarnations, signals, towers, plates, grids, chains, tweaks, or local legends. But I do enjoy the occasional Turtles or Tin Tin, and its fun running across the like from time to time delivered on whatever truck they might take.

Ever get back west for a visit?

I figured that HAD to be you Jack. I don't know anyone else who loves Audicy as much as you do! If you miss me you can always tune in to my show on KUFX... I track for them weekends. As to actual VISITS, I think the last time I was in Bay Area we had lunch. Or you can stream the Vermont station at www.pointfm.com

For reference, I'm 53. I thought the music and overall approach on KFRC was dull as wood and doomed their efforts, and that was a dissapointment for me. Done right it could have been great! But it seems that CBS has a tough time in the SF market.

But I'm ALSO interested in other stations. Why can't KITS and Alice get above a two share? What do folks think about Larry Sharp getting the ax at The Bone despite decent ratings? How are mornings at KFOG nowadays?

I also hear that the kids are really into hop hip these days...

After almost 35 years (and still) actively in the business, I know only a fraction of what most of these posters seem to know, so I keep to myself concerning comments about why who does how well where. I haven't the foggiest why the stations you mention are in the share shallows, except for maybe the same reason in which you describe the brilliance factor of KFRC. Your wording might be particularly appropriate regarding one station about which you inquire, whether morning show reference pun intended or not.

Everyone thinks they're a damn program director. If I was one...I'd go the Mikel Hunter route and make sure everyone at the station who had anything to do with on air activity produce and deliver some creative contribution to the airsound, stationality, and atmosphere...daily. And it better be damn good everytime, or contributor relinquishes the title of "professional". When all else fails, be good and do extra. A lot. Can't hurt.


Mornings at KFOG are good. Webster certainly presents a different personality than the previous guy (what was his name again? I knew it 25 odd years ago...but my mind...the ambien, you know). His uphill battle is not so much to perform, but to subordinate heritage.

Your southbay station of gig choice is doing well...how do you explain that? (Academic question for the sake of discussion, no implication of judgement intended.)

Ah, Mikel Hunter Herrington, of which on September 15, 1992, his last day as a Program Director at KVYN (and his
final P.D. gig ever, before he moved on to a KSRO talk show, and then retired), I was his nighttime DJ at KVYN - a
working relationship that lasted just over two years...

Mikel was a VERY creative factor in radio, and is truly missed...

You remain one of the funniest people I've ever met. No, the pun wasn't intended, I'm not that sharp. But you are!

KFOX's heritage (98.5, the old KOME spot on the dial) helps them a lot. I was talking with a friend who programs for CBS in another market and we just could NOT figure out why CBS didn't move "Movin'" up the dial so KFRC could be on it's own heritage (FM) signal. Could NOT have hurt...
