In their zeal to besmirch lawyers, WEEI-AM & FM morning hosts John Dennis and Gerry Callahan spread misinformation that catches the attention of a publication that takes a dim view of such things: http://masslawyersweekly.com/2012/0...on-takes-aim-at-legal-system-with-bogus-info/
And in your zeal to besmirch Dennis and Callahan, you're stating that they knew it was false. By the way, you forgot to mention the gorilla. But I'm sure you will later.

In the body of the article, John Dennis claims he knew the assertion was false, but funny. In other words, humor overrides veracity. BTW, the gorilla made universalhub.com because he shied away from a prediction anent Sunday's game.

'eei has little to do with journalism and is all about entertainment or should I say trying to entertain and falling short of the mark.

Who else would employ a plagiarist like Larry Johnson, the minister? Despite endless discoveries of photos that he has transformed into "original" drawings, he remains there. How many others have lost jobs in Boston media for stealing others work? But, it's ok at 'eei where they don't take reporting seriously.

Interestingly, in a like manner, almost all radio discussions of the Darwin Awards include many notorious but untrue or apocryphal cases. I guess the major reasons nobody gets bent out of shape over these is 1. Stupid people don't have their own trade journal, and/or 2. Professional umbrage-takers don't see any political mileage in attacking the Darwin awards.

In this case, it's a two-fer.

Meanwhile, the Dennis v. Ryen Russillo feud flares up again, at the ESPN Super Bowl Party (Russillo
is on with Scott van Pelt--no idea is he's related to Linus and Lucy of Peanuts fame :) --I don't
think WEEI airs SVP's show. They do local instead.)

http://deadspin.com/5882337/john-dennis-says-espns-ryen-russillo-is-a-stumbling-drunk-alcoholic

In comments, someone links to the Globe story about the Metco controversy. Barstool Sports also is
giddy about all this (the writer there said Ryen and he were kicked off The Zone "even though I was
paying for the airtime"; Dennis in the original voicemail, also found on above link, says "I don't know
who the f--- you are. I GUESS you're on The Zone." Dennis originally hails from Pittsburgh, hence
the Yinzer slang--as he uses "jagoff" meaning "jerk").

Larry Johnson: My nickname for him is Trace-y. A quick websearch will turn up a page of his
stealing from established photos. (Much like how Sheppard Fairey used an AP pic of Obama
to do the famed "Hope" poster.)

I forwarded the article to Dan Kennedy, Northeastern Univ journalism perfesser, blogger at Media Nation, and panelist on channel 19's "Beat the Press". He brought it up on his Twitter page, but not yet on the blog.

Why single out Dennis and Callahan? This sort of thing is the norm for almost any talk radio program these days. The notion that "it's only entertainment, so we don't need to get our facts straight" is widespread in radio; among other things it's a convenient excuse to cut corners to save a few dollars.

There ought to be some sort of code that broadcasters with higher standards can adopt.

ESPN suspends Rottillo, Rossillo, whatever his name is ("John Dennis (here), Rotillo...") after incident
involving J. Dennis

http://thebiglead.com/index.php/201...pended-from-espn-for-his-super-bowl-incident/

---interesting bizarre spelling involving sports figures:
Ryen Russillo
Ryne Sandberg
Jhonny Peralta
Jimy Williams (all actual spellings)

Add these examples of good old American sub-literacy:
Micheal Ray Richardson
Isiah Thomas

Oddly enough, Ryne Sandberg wasn't the first Ryne in MLB. There was a pitcher named Ryne Duren back in the '50s and '60s.

with an old colleague, WEEI’s John Dennis
I don't know if they ever worked together but I'm guessing no.

ESPN has been out-of-control in recent years and rumored to have settled several lawsuits. Maybe they are cracking down a bit in Bristol.

I think that's a snide reference to the digital tv number of Ch 2.

Sometimes I will hear people refer to cable channel numbers--"that show is on ch 18", referring to ch 50 in NH.
I think WVNY ch 22 in Burlington VT used to say "this is WVNY TV 22, cable 4" since so many cable systems had it on ch 4

[EDIT]
EVERY controversy they've been involved in be it the Rusillo(and yes I know this refent flare up was very recent) thing, the Metco gorilla thing are all of their own doing and since you're not allowed to reference anything older than 3 years old(if you go by any postings by Spooner or Raccoon where they defend D&C) eventhough it does establish a pattern of bad behavior and poor judgement by these two clowns.
Face it, they got the slot at EEI because of Deno's work at Channel 7 and Callahan's work in the rag over at 1 Herald St.
It's not as if either of them REALLY offer much insight to anything sports wise and if anything their show is more about their right wing politics than sports and that I blame on EEI management.
Am I surprised Deno knowingly spread false information? no, not in the least because he'll always have his defenders to try to shield him from any criticism and he knows it.

[EDIT-Off topic content removed.]

I'm not defending him or Russillo for that matter and the feud is a bit silly at this point. I might
agree with some of JD's opinions, disagree with others, and have said D&C has/had been a success
overall on EEI (till that other station came along). I'm not saying the liberal press is out to get him
though certainly every time the Globe or Herald writes about the "sports radio wars" there
are the inevitable comments from readers attacking D&C for their politics, or (lack of) entertainment value, etc. I haven't even really heard D&C in years.

>>Face it, they got the slot at EEI because of Deno's work at Channel 7 and Callahan's work in the rag over at 1 Herald St.

Good point

>>if anything their show is more about their right wing politics than sports
some people who have heard the show in recent times have said they've backed off from that
a lot

Whenever I read that D&C only talk about their evil right wing politics, I know the writer hasn't listened in a while. They did away with the "Headlines" segment of their show a couple of years back. That was the usual kick-off to the poloitical discussions.

I'm actually disappointed that they aren't aren't blasting Obama regularly, but they don't. They could have had a field day with Lt. Gov. "Crash" Murray, but they didn't.

Dennis got the job because he was sports anchor at channel 7 for many years and Callahan because he was a sports writer at the Herald and SI. Those sound like fairly good credentials to host a sports talk show. Who should have been chosen, a short order cook and an engineer? I don't see the problem with that at all.

If they're making fun of lawyers, I really don't take a lot of umbrage with that. As a matter of fact I share the Bard of Avon's opinion as to what should be done to all of them. Methinks thy indignation is a bit forced.

the Metco gorilla thing are all of their own doing

And, I'll ask again until somebody gives me an answer.

Why would a gorilla remind anyone of a Metco student? The only people I ever saw who resembled gorillas were those Bulgarian weightlifters featured on Wide World of Sports back in the '60s.

Inquiring minds want to know.

What color are gorillas? What continent do gorillas come from? Sheeeeesh... (I'm probably naive for taking the bait of an obvious troll. It's difficult to imagine anyone, liberal or conservative, who doesn't get why the reference was offensive.)

Earlier in this thread you posted that the spelling of the names of two African-American athletes were examples of sub-literacy. You know, if some one wanted to conjure up some indignation, they could say that was a racist remark. Of course I would never do that, but some people might. I seem to remember that Howard Cossell was accused of it because of a remark he made about a football player. Howard Cossell was an arrogant jerk, but far from a racist(according to Muhammed Ali). A lot of people disliked Howard and pounced on his remark to hurt him. If you try hard enough, you can come up with something, especially if presented to a willing audience

What color are gorillas?

They range in color from brown to gray to red. They also are very hairy, which is why I thought of those Bulgarian weightlifters. The parts that aren't covered by hair don't seem to resemble any human body parts, but maybe that's just me.

What continent do gorillas come from?

I believe Africa. Not to put too fine a point on it, but people who come from Africa come in all colors from bright pink to coal black. Do you think folks who come from Ireland resemble the Celtic's logo?

Sheeeeesh... (I'm probably naive for taking the bait of an obvious troll. It's difficult to imagine anyone, liberal or conservative, who doesn't get why the reference was offensive.)

Actually, offense is in the eye of the beholder. When I hear the word gorilla applied to a human being, I think 'hairy' (which is the only universal trait of gorillas) and default to those WWoS days. YMMV, and obviously does.
