Dennis Miller to replace Dr. Laura

Heard on WTDA this morning that starting Monday, the Dennis Miller show will replace Dr. Laura. I've never heard Dennis on the radio but his stint with the NFL was sorely out of place. Regardless, on the surface it seems like a better fit for the station than Dr. Laura.

Are we sure Dennis Miller is replacing Dr. Laura or is she moving elsewhere on the schedule?? I'm shocked that Dr. L would be s-itcanned so quickly...I am not as up on show contracts as others here are, but wouldnt to get the Doc they would have to sign up for more than a one month stint??? If she truly is out, I agree Miller is a better fit and fits more into what I referred to when Dr. Laura was first brought on as going against what I thought seemed like a good "Guy Talk" line-up..

I'm surprised they're going about things in the way they are. How hard is it to come up with a slate of syndicated talk shows. It truly is pretty bush league and unprofessional ..... like a high school radio station.

Are they doing pay for play per chance?

Salem had several press releases this week that Miller was going to be cleared on several of their stations, giving Miller clearance in Chicago and LA.

Salem is know for pay to play/pray. Can't imagine they'd be bumping their own network shows for something that isn't paying a tab.

Maybe North American is borrowing a page from the Salem playbook.

I'm not talking about that.

I'm talking about how they're coming out with shows piecemeal, with Fox Sports as filler. It doesn't seem very well thought out and it isn't very professional.

It should be noted that after digging around, Dennis Miller's radio show is new period. He premiers nationwide on all his affiliates on March 26th. WTDA probably signed the contract with Dr. Laura without knowing about Miller? Then when he started up his show they decided he was a better fit?

I like the sound of WTDA....and all questions aside, I like it even more with the dropping of Dr. Laura...gives the station more of a male talk station format...

Somebody tell me why they didn't change their call letters from WTDA when they changed formats? And why do they keep using them in all their station liners? They just sound like weird calls since they're not TED anymore. I'm sure it's just to remind people what station they're listening to for ratings purposes, but it annoys the crap out of me. Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't get it.

Why should they change the calls? They're good calls...a lot better than many other Columbus calls, past and present. WTDA rolls off the tongue nicely. Certainly better than some weird, dyslexic set of calls like WBWR for "Brew." What I wish WTDA would dump is the format.

Maybe durring the last format change, WTDA let go the person who handled such things as applying for Call Letter changes. ;)

As for them changing format, maybe they could go for an oldies format (so 107.9 can focus on 80s), or elevator music (haven't seen that one in the area for a while).

Calls

Gee, does it really matter WHAT the calls are? I mean beyond radio geeks.

WZKL is Q92, for example.

One can build a brand without messing with call letters...

Actually I think Dr. Laura sticks up for us guys more than anyone else currently on (terrestrial) radio.
