Dennis Prager Hurt in Fall

Dennis Prager had a bad fall at his home and is in the hospital with back and spinal injuries. Apparently, he will be off the air for quite a while. It looks like Salem will have guest hosts filling in for him until he is able to return. I wonder if it would make sense for Salem or WHK to put the Prager show on hiatus and air the full three hours of Charlie Kirk live from noon-3 pm?

This story is in the News/Talk forum, and I put a link to some press coverage there.

The problem with replacing a show is that affiliates sign contracts for that show. Scheduling guest hosts doesn't change their contracts. But if they completely replace the show, the affiliate contract becomes void. So it's easier to just have guest hosts. Also, the guest works with Prager's team. Replacing the show puts the production team out of work.

Well, when Mr. Prager's show was 3 hours long, from Noon until 3:00 pm, WHK, rather suddenly, replaced Prager's first hour with the first hour of "The Charlie Kirk Show", and ran "The Dennis Prager Show's" first hour at 10:00 p.m. Now, WHK runs "The Dennis Prager Show" from 1pm to 3 pm, when (I believe) it runs live from Noon until 2:00 pm. The reason to mention this is that it seems to me that with WHK being a Salem Media Group owned station, they might be able to do anything they want with the Salem shows.

Regardless, I would prefer that they don't replace Prager with Kirk. In fact, I wrote a letter to them some time ago suggesting that they run "The Dennis Prager Show" live from Noon until 2:00 pm and then air the last hour of "The Charlie Kirk Show", which would also be live, from 2:00 until 3:00 pm.

My suggestion was to replace Prager with Kirk temporarily until Prager is hopefully able to return. I believe the hosts that are filling in for Prager already have their own show and are thus doing double-duty on days when they are filling in. That is why I thought it might make sense to just put the Prager show on hiatus and air Kirk live from noon to 3:00 pm.

Ugh! Once you injure your back, it hurts forever. Screwed mine up back when I was in Boy Scouts when I was in camp and fell off a small hill and ended up in the camp infirmary for a week and it's never been right since then and then major back surgery about 10 years ago and what was supposed to be a 2 day stay in the hospital turned into 10 and therapists had to teach me how to walk again.

Sorry to hear about your injury.

Who spews less dangerous conservative talking points? Thats what i say they should do.
Dennis Prager doesn't spew dangerous conservative talking points, unless you consider any conservative talking point as to be 'dangerous'. He maturely shares his thoughts and concerns and, usually, backs them up with facts and other proof. He is, by far, my favorite talk show host and the one that has meant the most to me. Visit his PragerU.com website and watch 5-minute videos on, just about, any topic there is. Pick ones that you are interested in. I pray to God that Dennis can be fully healed and that he will be back soon.

Screwed mine up back when I was in Boy Scouts. That was almost 55 years ago. Being a "Florida Flatlander" I wasn't aware that even falling off a small hill [about 4 feet] would hurt so much. Heck, after that, I even threw my back out just lifting up a portable typewriter and spent two days in bed. I'm not even supposed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. Hah! Like that'll ever happen.

I like some of the fill-in hosts. They may have shows of their own, but many of them aren't heard on WHK. I like, in order of my preference, Mark Davis and Mark Isler.

Maybe Dennis will retire
Unless he is so hurt that he can't function, he probably won't. He's committed to his outreach to people on behalf of Conservatism. His usual mature demeanor and, often, scholarly way of sharing thoughts and ideas is a great way to reach those who disagree. He's important and valuable enough that I can see Salem building for him a home studio so he can do the show from home.

I wonder if WHK has the ability to change their schedule or do they have to do what Salem tells them? It would be nice if they could air as much of the programming live vs. pre-recorded, at least during the hours when most people are listening. They already have Hewitt live from 6-9 am and Frantz live from 9-noon. They could air Prager live from noon-2, the last hour of Kirk live from 2-3 pm, Gorka live from 3-6 pm, Elder live from 6-9 pm. After 9 pm, they could air pre-recorded programming in whatever order they prefer - Mike Gallagher, the first 2 hours of Kirk, Seculow infomercial (the first half hour airs live on WHKW 1220), Gunderson stock market show, etc. OK, I know it won't happen, but it's just what I would do if they put me in charge of the program schedule.

I thought he already did the show from home, or a private facility of sorts. There was one national radio host who did his show from his hospital bed. 1970s or 80s.
