Denver FM heard in East Tennessee

Flipping around here in East Tennessee yesterday (7/26) I heard a sports station in stereo on 87.7 FM calling themselves "The Ticket" with mentions of Denver. Did some Googling and found that this station actually just signed on the air yesterday! So I was picking them up on their first morning on air from just over 1,000 miles away!

Keep an ear open for this station as it might present a new DX opportunity for you too.

Oh wow, new LPTV on channel 6. And you managed to get them on e-skip.

I think 87.7 FM might be a great e-skip channel since there are few locals and it's first on the dial. There are FM stations on 87.7 in New York City (Russian), DC (Spanish), Miami (Spanish), LA (Spanish), Chicago (Jazz), Lafayette, Dallas, Lubbock, Boston (Hip Hop pirate station), Denver (Sports).

I got a few good catches on that frequency last summer because I used to listen to Pulse 87.7 in NYC all the time so I would notice any e-skip on that frequency. One day I heard jazz instead of dance on 87.7, and figured it was WLFM-LP from Chicago. Another time I heard French talk, it was a channel 6 in Newfoundland. I heard instructions for setting up a TV converter box on 87.7, that was channel 6 in Miami. This year someone in Georgia heard the pirate station Hot 87.7 from Boston during one of the e-skip openings. Last year someone heard Pulse 87 in Missouri via e-skip the same day I heard WLFM-LP.

87.9 is also home to a powerful pirate station in Newark, NJ so if you hear Creole talk on 87.9, it has to be them since there are no other 87.9s in the country.

There is a station on 87.9 FM called KSFH in Mountain View, which is about 10 miles NW of San Jose, CA. However I'm not sure if that station would ever propogate through e-skip or tropo because the tower only broadcasts with 10 watts.

To nit-pick... Channel 6 in Newfoundland isn't French. I'm pretty sure you heard a Quebec station. (NOT Montreal, that one is English too) There are also channel 6 French stations in northwest Ontario; in northern Manitoba; and at two locations in Alberta.

I actually heard WAFX 106.9 FM in Suffolk, VA on the hills overlooking Deadwood, SD a few weeks ago.....CLEARLY......for about 20 minutes......

Awesome! I should try for 87.7 The Ticket during the next Es to Denver.

There's one more 87.9, K200AA in Sun Valley, NV.

The splattery pirate in Kodak kills 87.7 and 87.9 in my part of East TN

I know what you mean. They are way over modulated. Even in Maryville and parts of West Knoxville that pirate is a pest. For those who don't know, we're talkin' at least a good 20 to 30 miles away... and it's only a pirate!

Definately! Here in Tennessee, last year doing some really good conditions, I was able to receive and positively identify reception of Pulse 87.7 New York. Also one morning I was able to hear smooth jazz very strong in stereo for a second or two... and I'm guessing this was meteor scatter and I was receiving the Chicago station.

Also have been able to hear Canadian and Mexican channel sixes from here.
