Denver->Hartford

I'm pretty sure I just picked up 850 KAO from Denver in Hartford (1,896 mi) just now, while trying to get WABC 880 from New York.. I'm not a big DX'er, but I do enjoy trying from time to time. I think I did hear the KAO calls, but I did hear an ad for something occuring at the Colorado Convention Center. If I'm incorrect, please let me know. It was coming from somewhere around 850am. It would beat my best certain effort so far (1,315 mi from Tampa).

I listen to KOA in Kenosha, WI on a semi regular basis. Its usually the last station to leave after sunrise. Usually 30-45min after the sun is in the air.
______________

Most Likely was KOA in Denver. Ive read alot of DX Logs, with KOA being heard on the east coast in your area. The station even regularly makes it into Hawaii.

KOA is a tough one for me to get, in Columbus GA. There's a couple low powered nighttimer's around me on 850, making it nothing more than mud at most times. I usually don't get KOA until after 10PM, and only after then do I have to keep it on 850 for a while before I here anything intelligible.

I'm going to begin experimenting with some directional outdoor MW antennas which may make DXing from the West easier. All I'm using right now is a 100-ft center-fed dipole strung between three trees.
Edited by DJK_31904 on 01/08/06 07:28 PM.

WABC is 770, WCBS is 880.

Hi everyone:

You must not be a big DXer because ANY REPUTABLE SELF-RESPECTING DXer knows that 880 in New York is WCBS & _NOT_ WABC! This is a slap in the face to classic radio lovers everywhere.

Also 850 here in Denver is KOA & _NOT_ KAO.

I think I did hear the KAO calls, but I

850 is the only blowtorch in Denver that you would be able to hear in Hartford.

JFYI...

Cheers for now & 73 :)

KOA-AM 850 never comes in within Hartford. It's too far, even for a clear channel and we've got WRYM-AM 840 of New Britain to contend with (and their crappy transmitter to the immediate East in Newington).
