Depetro asks Buddy to Marry him!

Buddy in the mourning with Tony Frietus on News and Ron St. Pierre on sports.
Advertisers pull out but WPRO management won't admit to that because of the possibility having egg on thier face.
Now that would be something to wake up too.
this wont last trust me.John Depetro must feel this small.
Every talk show host has been slamming Corruption in RI government and here the management hires a thug.

6-10 Wake up to Buddy
10-2 spend your mid-days with Joe Mollicone
2-6 Your ride home with the FAt guy that got caught at a bar on State time.He should be feeling it by 2.

Ken, thing is, Buddy was offically found guilty of racketering. Not one tv or radio news outlet has asked WPRO about the idea maybe Buddy should apologize to the people of Providence. I know Buddy. He's more angry and power hungry then ever. This is just so wierd. The wierdest thing is Depetro. It's just too much.

WPRO will become a Hell hole to work at. mark my words.

Best talk host on that station is Matt Allen and that dim wit Barbra Haynes wastes him for Cianci and Depetro.Maybe they do get married, Al Sharpton would do the ceremony. I still can't believe Yorke hasn't demanded Depetro take back all the slurs ! Yep, it must be NO JOY working there.

But unlike that Dave Barber, at least Buddy is LOCAL!

Matt is LOCAL.
Buddy is LOCAL.
Rhode Island is LOCAL.
LOCAL, LOCAL, LOCAL.

All this on-air conversation yesterday about a slot machine made me nervous.
Twin River is just-far-enough-up-146, that it's perilously-close-to you-know-where...MASSACHUSETTS.
NOT-local.

Attleboro?
Swansea?
NOT Smith Hill.
NOT local.

Holland is all your whining about WPRO related to their unceremonious dumping of your boy Barber?
I'm shocked that a guy like you, one who endlessly self promotes about having knowledge of the industry (it's not self evident to the rest of us :D ) doesn't understand the dynamic of parochial Rhode Island. Very weak analysis Holland I Cooke.

RE "I'm shocked..."

CLEARLY.

Nuance isn't lost on THIS crowd, eh?

So much for MY "analysis."
And urinalysis?

Today, while you're hanging drywall, or whatever-else-it-is YOU do for a living, ponder what-got-lost-in-all-the-Buddymania yesterday.

A VERY non-local story: The King Is Dead.

How often have you heard news bulletins introduced by an-unsettled-sounding-announcer, saying "THIS JUST HANDED ME..."

It was 30 years ago yesterday, when, serendipitously, I happened-to-be-standing-closest-to-the-machine when the AP wire printed-out the bulletin that Elvis had died. IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII handed it to Gary DeGraide, who changed-the-local-conversation for the next several days, by telling WPRO listeners.

HERE'S some "analysis" that'd REALLY shock you...

TV12, as it was then known, came over that night, and interviewed me while I was on the air.
I compared the instant emotional impact we were hearing from listeners to "the day President Kennedy died."
Although I was just a lad in 1963, the grief we all shared was seared in my memory.

Next morning, WPRO's switchboard dang-near EXPLODED.
And reaction was split almost-exactly 50/50 (a Talk radio DREAM):
Half the LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL accents calling were offended: "How DARE he say that???"
The other half were sobbing: "It IS!"

Because WPRO's signal doesn't end at the state line, some of those callers probably weren't the neighbors youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu trivialize as "parochial Rhode Island."

Perhaps you recall 1963 or 1977 differently.

OH! And, as I recall...

...possibly-even-before President Carter's statement, LOCAL Mayor Buddy Cianci released a statement noting Elvis' passing.

this WPRO is going to be a hell hole to work at is terribly misguided. they are going to, at least temporarliy, climb to the top of heap. they are going to be flying high. and since it's all ego driven, each one of those yutz's will feel responsible. they'll be able to stay out of each others way long enough to celebrate what are going to be some pretty good books. not that we'd be ale to see them because of the constant embargos

they are already at the top of the heap...the Score and HJJ can't do anything to touch WPRO-AM over the last 2 books from what I've been told and WEEI-FM is better than WPRO and this might just bring them closer in the ratings...we'll never know because of the embargo....and don't listen to the squawking from the should-have-beens and never-weres, Holland, while they have been very RI thopic, Dan has laid the groundwork for the full fall book assault on Mass with the tribal casino looming in Middleboro all summer....

Was John Depetro ordered to say nice things about buddy cianci? I mean I couldn't
believe my ears, when John Depetro was welcoming Buddy back. John used to call him the King Pin
of organized Crime in Providence. John often infered Buddy was Gay. John counted down the days
before Buddy C went to prison. John made fun of him constantly. It's like a Jewish person kissing Hitler.
So, are wpro bosses forcing all this nice behavior? thank you.

I think John is scared Buddy will kick his ass. That is enough motivation to make a person nice. :)
im sure wpro mgmt. told depetro to say nothing negatave about buddy.... or else he wouldnt have changed his opinion about him...... besides depetro should be grateful buddy signed w/ wpro cause had hjj got buddy and put him up against depetro ..... depetro would be all done

John is not what he was :'(. John was a ball to kisten to. Now, he phooneyyy. bad.
Have you noticed, he stopped playing the Cianci Laugh? I listen to John, I speak to
people close to John, he is a broken guy. He's told friends he will have to work 6 to 9 am
Buddy is taking his hours, just to humiliate him. When late Sept. comes around John
will be getting up at 4 am to go to work, because of Buddy Cianci. Buddy won the war.

So DePetro will be part of the morning show?Frankly when he was let go at WRKO one of the things he cited was having a family to support. Now he's a broken man and humiliated because he'll be on mornings at WPRO?I have no axe to grind with him or the kind of show he does but his whining sounds more fitting of someone half his age or someone who doesn't know the reality of radio. If everyone here decided to post instances of having to just deal with it the thread would be longer than WPRO IS HURTING WHJJ IS GAINING.Just deal with it.

I don't know what's going on. Perhaps Deptro has lost his direction. Perhaps even lost his motivation. He seems to be a bitter man in the making. Something changed. I look back four years ago and see a guy who was doing very well in the market. Top rated show, Celebrity Guests, Cable simulcast. Things were good. Now people are barely paying attention to him. I think the simple fact that his career is going backwards is rather frustrating to him. I'm all for taking a chance. But Depetro would have been better off just staying where he was. He essentially ruined things for himself. That little trip to Boston turned things into a mess.
