DePetro Attacks Severin On-Air

Interesting discussion at the beginning of John DePetro's WRKO talk show this morning. DePetro carried over Dan Kennedy who was filling in for the vacationing Scott Allen Miller. The discussion turned to Tucker Carlson's new cable show on MSNBC and DePetro said that he didn't know what kind of a career move it was for the guy on the other station. DePetro then added that it was hard to tell watching the show which of Carlson co-hosts was the lesbian naming both Jay Severin of WTKK or Rachel Maddow of AirAmerica. Both are pretty scary looking DePetro said.

Wonder how, Severin will respond. Better yet wonder if Maddow will sue for defamation ...
 
I'm sure Severin will respond, if he finds out about it. (I don't think
'RKO's signal reaches Sag Harbor but maybe he tuned in online) whether it's bringing back his nickname
of 'RKO as "Fart Radio" (and Jay used to work there!) or finding some
kind of nickname for Indy Man. When the Globe's Scot Lehigh did an
anti-Severin column, Jay nicknamed him "Scat He-Lies". I don't often listen
to Severin (though I tuned in that day to see what he would say
about the Globe columnist). For one reason he's up against Howie...

People in the public eye don't really get any results from suits like
that, as far as I know. If someone who ISN'T a celeb (like Howie's wife)
is defamed (remember the Imus case), it could be a different story.

Well at least the folks at 'RKO are mentioning him by name. It went from
ignoring the presence of WTKK (one promo they used to run said "there's
ONE place you can talk about it (the news)"--huh? 96.9 doesn't
exist, or 'BZ, or...?) to jokingly referring to Flattop Jay ("Broadcasting from
his basement in Long Island--no wait, that's the OTHER guy") to now
having DePetro and Kennedy talk about Jay and actually mentioning his name.

Although other Rhodes Scholars have come out as (BLEEP) once they reached Oxford, Maddow says she had no choice but to go through the arduous selection process as an out lesbian: "I couldn't have made a case for myself if I had been closeted. So much of my political involvement is tied up in me being a big dyke," she says.

The signal could easily reach Sag Harbor during the daytime. It weakly gets into areas west of Hartford where the ground conductivity is much worse than the salt water surrounding E. Long Island.

So, Jay might even listen first hand - without the 'net.

The overall context of the comments was to provide an example of the overall crappiness of Tucker Carlson's new show. But, Depetro couldn't resist a few jabs on the side. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't toss stones....

Yes, who knows. Speaking of water conductivity I've picked up
WRKO on the shores of Lake Champlain in Burl VT (but with splashover
from 690 of course)

Severin can dish it out but he cannot take it so he'll have something to say about it. Anyone who writes something even remotely unflattering about him he goes on the war path. Even though Mark Jurkowitz (who should know better) wrote a glowing story about him in the globe a few years ago where Severin wouldnt give his age or whether he was married or not and Jurkowitz just accepted it without further investigation. I remember Jay taking on Nik Carter when Nik offhandedly called him a " facist" on air and he challanged "the popular afternoon host with the initials N.C' or something like that to come on his show and debate the issues. Nik responded "next time Im in long Island I'll stop by your show Jay so we can talk"

Funny stuff.
