Depetro biggest loser in Cianci deal

WPRO handed John Depetro the early bird special shift. I give Depetro a year (if that) before he quits to join the Laffey for Governor campaign. There is no way Depetro stays at WPRO after this demotion.
Ron St.Pierre hasn't even started his gig with Buddy yet and I'm already sick of him.
Count me as one who has no desire to listen to this duo.

How do you figure JD's new gig will be a demotion? He's been saying all mng that he'll be in Salty's spot...".this was his dream." He's the new guy on the block, he could've gotten the Barber treatment.

StPierre took one helluva demotion when he gave up PD, That's the way the cookie crumbles.

If it's DePetro it'll be Fosta Glosta. I've even heard him say brefusses instead of breakfasts. Someone really needs to coach his dicshun. He's not dumb or uneducated but his speech makes him sound it.

Half of the people from here to Boston sound like morons when they talk. It's just the local dialect. Nobody said it's pleasant. Arlene Violet would be an extreme example of someone who is very educated, but sounds as dumb as a wall when she opens up her trap.

how in gods name does anyone consider a move to morning drive a demotion?

1) won't be called "the John dePetro Show"

2) it's a news show, not primarily talk

This is no demotion. More listeners. PERIOD.
However, its doomed from the get go.
Not sure if his schtick and caustic demeanor will work so early in the a.m. This is a NEWS format- weather, sports, traffic the NEWS.

St. Pierre was a good fit because he was a good moderator and was civil to any guests and has a broad appeal. Its like Leno to Letterman. St. Pierre is definitely Leno- Depetro is a mean spirited and nastier Letterman.

Depetro is an acquired taste. The early listeners are senior citizens up at 6am and all the commuters, many will be taken aback, but perhaps Depetro is instructed to tone it down (which he has been doing since getting back in Providence).
Any comparison to Salty (he eluded to a child dream of being him) is way far fetched. He aint no Salty!!!!

Thus, all in all, this is not a demotion, but it will be quite a challenge and could lead to his ultimate demise.

While I agree it isn't a demotion....it is in no way a positive move for JD for the simple reason that he can't be the "independent man" until after the 8am news and still has to use all of the "features" of the news part of the show (weather & Traffic) from 8-9. While there are more listeners currently, I would be very interested to see in a book or 2 how the audience has changed...if the rumors of the contract are correct, he is only a short way in on a 3 yr deal and if mornings doesn't work out to his liking and he wants to leave...he's stuck for another 2 years

Are you people kidding? You think a hard news/politics talk show host like Depetro getting moved to the 6 am shift so he can do news, weather and traffic is a promotion for him? Isn't it everyone's dream job to get up at 4 a.m. every morning and start work at 6?? ;D
Depetro will be gone in a year....or less.

It's a promotion in the sense that he will have more listeners. He probably gets a nice raise thrown in too. So Promotion? YES. It's a promotion. But does that necessarily mean success? NO. Probably not. He'll be out of his element more than ever and I think ratings will suffer. Beginning on September 20th, Depetro's freedom will essentially be killed off. That format will be handed to him on a platter and his radio persona will proceed to die an ugly death.

Technically it may be a promotion but I guarantee Depetro doesn't see it as one.
I know I wouldn't. Depetro isn't going to be around long enough to die an ugly radio death Skynet.
He's a childhood friend of Steve Laffey, Laffey is going to run for governor and Depetro
will leave to go work on his campaign and if Laffey wins will work in his administration.
If Laffey losses it'll be 2009 and other radio opportunties may present themselves.

Johnny D is very talented and versatile. He understands that his role as a host is entertainment.

He'll do just fine in this format. What's his competition? He'll be the only local news/talk show during the time period. True, he won't be able to take as many calls as 9-12, but he will have the capacity to reach a much broader audience.

I predict he'll be a big winner.

Reach a much broader audience for what? He won't have the time between all of the giveaways and contests they do on WPRO, Traffic, Accu Weather, top & bottom of the hour news and a full boat of commercials....he strives to be the talk host railing against the Rhode Island Machine...he just simply won't have the time to do so 6-9

Sky, a raise...doubt it....a contract is a contract

Oh, just what my morning needed....another reason to hit the snooze bar.

I think that fly has dislexia

VERY SIMPLE.... IF JOHN DIDNT WANT THE SHIFT... OF DIDNT LIKE THE MOVE.... HE COULDA REFUSED IT AND TERMANATED HIS CONTRACT..... BUT LIKE ANY OTHER JOB HES NOT THE BOSS!.... AND I THINK HE WILL ADAPT AND COME TO LIKE THE NEW POSITION HE WAS OFFERED

John will adapt, and I bet the format will be more talk/less hard news that it has been.

There are plenty of venues where morning drive talk works just fine.

If anyone can do it in RI, it's JD.
