DePetro Ignores Controversy

Apparently, DePetro, on WRKO is choosing to ignore his bizarre behavior in Providence over the weekend.

DePetro sounds nervous however.

Perhaps, he is afraid someone will call in at 617 266 - 6868 and bring it up.

Would be fun to listen to that call.

Seems acting like a cafoon fits him.

from Friday on his Boston show on Monday?

I don't agree. it was a news story on Saturday. His behavior was disgusting at a Katrina victims fundraiser. He should be called on the carpet.

Call the station if you feel that John Depetro disrupted a BENEFIT
for POLITICAL gain or for noteriety and press. If Depetro thinks
All press is good press, prove him wrong.

More people need to complain to the stations PUBLIC FILE, then go into
the station and see that your letter is there. If they REFUSE to put
your letter in the PUBLIC FILE and toss it into the circular file (trash can),
there may be FCC sanctions.

What was the Yorke guy doing then by going on a tirade and
slamming DePetro during this fundraiser? Your argument is weak.
DePetro is no saint in this one, but Yorke is a big, fat bully
hiding behind the mic and should be held accountable as well.

Not surprised, really; Tom Leykis kinda kept mum about the
spousal abuse incident on the air (during his last months at
'RKO) but that was prob. at his lawyer's advice. (Though Tom
did give his side of the story to Tai during the Tai-ster's
'FNX days).

I did hear him talking to Andy Hiller (Bush-bashers: that's the guy
who asked W that tough question about who's the president of
an obscure country) and Joe Sciacca, about Romney's presidential
hopes (slim and none), etc. Will Yorke say something at 3 pm over on
PRO?<P ID="signature">______________

Guess we all have our obsessions; folks here who dwell on attacking
'RKO, 'BZ, Air America (raises hand: guilty!)...just as there are those
on the Left who attack "Bush and the neo-cons" and those on the Right
who attack Kerry, Dean, Hillary, et al. What's that old saying,
the two favorite pastimes in Boston are politics...and revenge? :)
(And sports!)

I could take or leave Indy Man--sometimes I do listen. Yeah his voice isn't
as professional-sounding as others, but you could say that about other
talk hosts, too. I'm not fond of Severin or Franken's voices, either. But if
I liked what they were talking about I might still listen. As for the
R.I. controversy, it is almost comic relief.

But on a more serious note, if you ever ARE in the city where the DePetro/
Yorke clash took place, take a moment and go down Cowesett Ave. and look at what used to be the Station nightclub, and think about the 100 people whose
lives were lost (and the countless others who were injured) there. I was in that area earlier this year and it gives one pause. (Sorry for spurious comment,
but mention of W. Warwick can only remind me of that horrid event.)<P ID="signature">______________

It was a news story in RHODE ISLAND as was WHJJ dumping Air America.
I posted the Air America story here on a radio-info site and was chastized because it's a RHODE ISLAND story.
How is the DePetro/Yorke issue any different??
It isn't.
It's a RHODE ISLAND story that has nothing to do with WRKO.

Well, parklane, I actually agree with you here! The Depetro story has hit the papers and is in the radio trades today (All Access for one). A very unprofessional display, the incident reflected badly on WRKO, Entercom, and Depetro.

Going over to another station's remote (for charity, no less) and starting a rumble with the host? How idiotic!

Many stations would have shown him the door for something like this...

No doubt. Both of them need to be discplined.

You figure some of Entercom's employee conduct rules would
have to apply in this case and may have been violated.

Well ... let's think about this logically.

It did happen in Rhode Island, but John DePetro is on the air in BOSTON. WRKO could have taken action against him in BOSTON. Therefore there is a logical BOSTON connection.

Your Air America topic was about the network itself, and not the stations, therefore belongs on the national or news/talk board.

DePetro is not now or probably ever ready to take off his training wheels and move on to a larger market.

All this shows John DePetro's insecurity. He might have been Big in a small pond but he is a minnow in the Boston ocean and he is drowning.

No...just asking if you're up to insulting "the boys" in
person. But I don't imagine they'd make any offers.
They're not big on negotiation; more action-oriented.
You can get away with a lot if you've lived all your
life in Rhode Island and "say it with a smile". There's
also a special exception for those whose family name ends
in a vowel.

Bad metaphors not withstanding, there's truth in this comment too. Depetro is definitely a RhoDieland boy - he has always seemed (and sounded) out of place in Boston. He is brutal to listen to and I have generally given up trying.

The latest controversy just serves to illustrate that he truly belongs in the 401.

A return there for him would be a win-win for all involved...including listeners of WRKO.
