DePetro on WBCN Toucher and Rich

from DePetro.com: "I will be a guest this afternoon on Toucher and Rich on 104.1 FM, the Rock of Boston WBCN. I would love to speak with all of you, so feel free to call-in. These guys were defending me, so please be nice. I am not sure of the studio number, but the main number is 617-746-1400."

BE NICE?

So he can spout whatever he wants, but be sure not to call him and saw anything that may be unpleasent, like...you can't hack it in Boston, go back to Providence...or....You ratings were worse than Feinburg...or...You skinny italian ******

For those unable to access the stream... I will do this in summary form rather than direct quotes
in case there are any copyright issues.

DePetro (D) said he was just relaying to the audience how annoying it was at the debate and wonders
if he had said "obese" instead of fat would he have been fired. He says Ross is an admitted lesbian but that some feel he was fired because of the tone of how he said those two words.

DePetro maintains she shouldn't have been at the debate because she had no chance of winning and that he only got one complaint about his comments. He adds that that was the most attention Ross got during the campaign.
Toucher and Ross point out that she actually laughed when she heard about the comments. DePetro says he
proposed to have Ross or a gay group come on the next day to discuss the matter but WRKO refused.

DePetro was asked if low ratings were a factor. He didn't think so but said the show before him was
"weak" but added "it (morning show) was going through several changes"...

DePetro says that he criticized Amorello for not being responsible and for portraying himself as a victim.
He says he didn't call Amorello a f--. He said he was acting like a f--.
He says that Entercom told him not to make any more homosexual slurs, but maintains that he called
her a lesbian which is what she has called herself on her site, etc.

DePetro says he was getting a bunch of emails; that someone started an online petition, and that he
was trying to get re-hired by WRKO. He had offered to have her on in a segment called Amazing Grace
but WRKO refused. DePetro adds that while he disagrees with everything Ross stands for, "we have a
debate show" so it would make sense to have someone on with an opposing viewpoint.
D: "I disagree with everything Ross stands for. So it would be in keeping with the format of the show
to have someone on I disagree with so we could debate."

T&R: "It sounds like you're sniveling to get your job back. I'll do anything."

DePetro said "I have nothing against her. I apologized to her."

DePetro goes on to say that given that D&C were given a second chance, why wasn't he? (Well, he was...earlier...)

"I still don't get why my board op was fired. Even if I deserved it he didn't."

"Tell him to come over to CBS. Our standards are very very low..."

DePetro said he didn't start the petition. Someone else did.

T&R: "You were hired by Entercom/WRKO to rile people up, then you get fired. Now Rush Limbaugh, who I hate,
he gets fired by ESPN for giving his opinion on Donovan McNabb...if this kind of thing keeps up programming
will be bland and uninteresting....People, if you don't like what someone says on radio, don't listen! Just because you hear something and don't agree with it...Don't tune in...people won't hear the ads...We can't call overweight people fat? This is ridiculous! I think you have a lawsuit because it's wrongful termination.
You didn't do anything that you were not paid to do! Hire a Methodist minister who won't offend anyone
and they can do a swap shop, if you don't want a controversial talk host!"

Then they mention the Globe story about Finneran possibly being hired....

T&R: "It sounds like you're sniveling to get your job back. I'll do anything."

That's priceless. Then they go on to defend him.

DePetro has damaged himself beyond repair by not looking like a statesman that got a raw deal.

As much as Parenteau's off-the-air shenanigans have destroyed him, Parenteau did take the high
road when Oedipus was blatant about the age discrimination thing. If the memory is correct, Oedipus said
something in Billboard that Mark could've sued over. Mark - instead - went to RKO and to the NY station
and then to XM. He bounced back.

DePetro and two other area "personalities" (please)...didn't pursue legal remedies, but they pissed, moaned and complained.

One has a gig in the hinterlands while another is stuck on weekend duty out of state.

Y'know, if you got a case explore legal options and negotiation and mediation.. If you have talent and a case, explore those options and get your aircheck out to the people you've known over the years who will stand by you during the crisis. But to get on your hands and knees to beg...ha ha ha - something I would never do. Never. Negotiate, sure, but beg?

Real talent will win out. Expect full assault on the messenger, meaning my point of view is 100% correct.

So let's reiterate: John DePetro - do your air check. Send to hinterlands. Get out of dodge. It's over.

I see your jealousy of those who actually work in this industry continues. You miss me. you really miss me.

I did. Thanks for noticing

Not I, darling, but if Mistress Carrie wants you back she can sing this song
written by Eddie Rabbit & Dick Heard (not THAT Dick Heard from Holden, is it?)

(words & music by eddie rabbit - dick heard)

Seven lonely days
And a dozen towns ago
I reached out one night
And you were gone
Dont know why youd run,
What youre running to or from
All I know is I want to bring you home

Kentucky rain keeps pouring down

[EDIT]

Toucher and Rich booking Depetro on their show does not make much sense, he is not doing much for the hip edgy appea they want to cutivate, and they dont share the same demo or audience. He's not a big news maker in that anyone outside of RKO's audience has no idea who he is. Other than a desperate attempt to get press mention I dont see the point of having him on the show. If Mistress Carrie got fired it would make sense to bring her on the air but Depetro doesnt. not to me.

[EDIT--personal attack.]

Putting DePetro on the air makes sense because he's making such an ass out of himself and Touche' & Rich get to make sport of him.

The two "on air personalities" referenced are legends indeed...in their own minds. They don't even have the
518 fake posts on DePetro's petition. At least he HAS a petition!

Walk up to anyone in the street in Boston and ask if they know the forgotten jocks. You get "Who"?

The paranoid are men with faces made for radio. They repeat the words of Sally Field "They love me,
they really love me", their self-doubt fueling their inner rage and need to lash out at their critics.

Those of us not afraid to go on national tv or public access
tv enjoy when someone says "Hi, great interview with Ray Manzarek", or a letter from a librarian "Your interview with Laura Numeroff was excellent". Even my 85 year old friend gets acknowledgment at City Hall and in the center of town...people pay attention to hard working producers. Egotistical on-air personalities with strange faces usually go into what we now call DMM Syndrome DePetro Meltdown Mode.

it's the way of all things

Joe just like the "Depetro is a weird looking dude" comment you made, you forget that you have posted your web site and "short bio" link so many times on this board which includes pix of you. People who live in glass houses should NOT throw stones my friend. Also I beg to differ, I would guess that more people remember "Neanderpaul" than Harvey Warfield, if you even try to argue that you are obviously blinded by your own delusions. Sorry and no offense meant to Harvey who Im sure is a good enough guy but not a memorable name or presence in Boston radio. To be fair though he 's also been of the air for some 15 years though.

that's "off" the air and it is spelt "Wharfield". How strange that your keyboard has the same exact problems as someone who is not allowed to post here. What a coincidence. In any event you are wrong on both Counts.

1)Wharfield is a Boston radio legend - not my opinion, a fact. He was on during a time when jocks with
personality made an impact.

2)Neanderpaul was on for 18 months, got axed; did a little stint on another station. Left.
There were no picket signs, no tears shed. Corporate didn't go after him the way they begged
Charles to come back and threw all sorts of money at him. Or the way Bill Smith kept badgering
Wharfield to take the afternoon drive gig at WZLX - Harvey had moved on and was doing other things.
He did not want to go back to radio until they made him an offer that was hard to refuse.

The difference, Mr. TowerBuzz, is that Wharfield walked away from radio and radio went looking for him.
Neanderpaul lusts to be on in Boston and the audience did not respond to his shtick. It happens.
Hopefully the mid-west is enjoying his brand of humor and his Van Halen obsession. I wish him the best.
For me, personally, it is one less personality that I would tune out immediately because - like the
majority of people in Boston, Paul doesn't have what we want to hear. Nor does John DePetro.

Again - it was a brilliant move for T & R to have DePetro on. He is a tragic figure morphing into a parody
of himself. He's gotten more promotion on this board than he got from his entire run on WRKO. Too bad
people are laughing at him and not with him. T & R leading the pack. Pretty pathetic.

DePetro should've stayed OFF the air, let things cool off, and beg the powers that be in R.I. to have him back.

he's damaged goods.

I dont know Mr "Wharfield" personally so how would I know how his name is spelled?, sorry. Legend? that's crap you only think that because he's a friend of yours. Using your example not one person if you were to ask on the street, knows who he is or could tell you one thing he was known for. It's about your total self absorbtion; He's your friend so he's a legend. preposterous. Didn't you post yesterday that he did four years afternoons on wcgy, and four years on wzlx? but Neanderpaul who you say did afternoons on waaf for eighteen months ( I dont know if that is true or it was more or less) and Nick Carter who did afternoons on wbcn for eight years? nine years? are forgotten but this Wharfield who did afternoons at wcgy for four years, some twenty years ago is a legend?.

Crazy.

Incorrect. You don't know what went down at all in the days after my release by Entercom. Nor do you have any idea of what went on within the halls of CBS Radio. Please have facts before making statements such as these.

Varulven said:

Also incorrect. At this time, I have less than zero interest in returning to the airwaves of Boston radio. (Although I have been contacted about the prospect a couple of times) Contrary to your opinion, market size doesn't equal broadcasting proficiency. My numbers were also pretty good. Was I #1? Nope. Did I contend? Yep. Are you in the demo? Nope. So, it would stand to reason that I did not appeal to YOUR preferences.

Please have facts. Or at least make the effort to make it clear that you are opining.
