DePetro to PRO? (via Prov Board)

A couple posts on the Prov board are saying that WPRO is replacing Dave Barber (9-11:45 am) with
DePetro (Barber said he was being let go and DePetro would get slot). No sign yet on John's site,
and WPRO's site simply says "WPRO AM 630" under that slot. Posting here because it falls under
the will-JD-get-back-on-in-Boston category. (If true, his fans would be able to hear him fairly well
in Greater Boston, as WPRO has a fairly good signal)
 
Where is the out-pouring of tears for Dave Barber and his family? :'(

Dang Carptebagger from Boston stealing jobs from a local. SOmeone should start a petition to stop the madness! :D
 
Well you can't really call DePetro a carpetbagger: he's from Cranston and orig. was on WHJJ. Hopefully
Barber will land elsewhere.
 
I wouldn't mind hearing JD on WPRO. Their signal is more reliable than WRKO in my area.

When will Matt Allen get a weekly show in RI?

I am pumped! Same time 9-12, just 630 instead of 680. Thank god. I cannot take Todd or Gram.
I have always found JD very entertaining....who is he replacing? I get WPRO great on the south Shore where I work

He was fired from WRKO last year for allegedly making a derogatory remark about Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate Grace Ross. Earlier, he was suspended for making a homosexual slur in reference to former turnpike authority Chairman Matt Amorello.

They should have said, he was "allegedly fired" for making a derogatory remark... I mean, isn't this a news source which is supposed to find out what's really going on, rather than just repeat the press release??

And, what a shame that public airways are filled with this kind of crap anyway. Knee-jerk, right-wing, Bush-loving, name-calling bully (who couldn't win an actual fight to save his life) gets on the air again. In liberal New England.

Are the people doing the programming on radio aware of the current political climate in this country? It was a 'throw the bums out' kind of year, which showed in DePetro's ratings (down 50% compared with down 18% for Feinburg and down 11% for Carr).

This, my friends, is the real affirmative action program, as opposed to that namby pamby crap that conservatives are in a lather about. Whatever.
 
Well, supposedly he (DePetro) was a kind of muckraker in the Buddy/Plunderdome days...

Knee-jerk right wing bullies get ratings here (New England) and get rehired. Knee jerk left wing bullies can't be heard locally due to their station's dropping of lib talk.

Well I guess they like him down in Family Guy-land...and if 'PRO's ratings drop by the same margin, maybe he'll be gone there, too...oh, and as someone on the Prov board noted, isn't
it great when a station hires two people that they KNOW can't stand each other? Kind of like a new
morning host and the established pm drive guy here in Boston, eh? (cue: "Howie's a moron"--Finneran)
There have been sparks before between DePetro and Yorke.

Name one. There aren't any left-wingers on the radio with enough power to bully anybody. Give me a break.

Left-wingers wheedle and moan and guilt-trip, but they don't bully. ;)

And, get ratings? He dropped 50%. Sorry, but I'm in business. I've got a product that drops in sales by 50%, it's history. You'd think the station would think they need something else by now. I could understand when the whole country was giving Bush a free pass and Republicans owned both the Senate and House.

Things have changed.
 
Yep I know he dropped 50 per cent but maybe he works better on his home turf, Prov.

what station will scotto be on? how was scotto doing in the morning? I wonder why Jason decided last March to get rid of scotto?
 
I heard Scotto say earlier this week that he is just a few days away from...oblivion.

I have not listened since peter blute left. Scotto always seemed unprepared and lost. I have no idea where he came from but there is no way he did radio before RKO. He always seemed afraid of JD. I liked JD,Howie and I like Jay Severin. I liked it when Jay was on after Howie at night.I don't care what anyone says, depetro runs a good show. Guys I work with worship him, and they were big WEEI listeners. I think he is funny and he picks good topics. Todd and gram are boring.Period. But nobody is worse than scotto. He is just plain bad.

A similar article quotes DePetro as saying that Citadel's purchase of ABC makes him glad as it's
a "growing company". Jason Wolfe is quoted as saying he hopes JD "does well" and Grace Ross
says "If Rhode Island wants him, that's their choice".
