Deplorable Coverage of Arias Trial Decision

You see the old movies where the news people crawl all over each other fighting for interviews or yelling inflammatory or innuendo trying for the sensational. We got it all today while waiting for the decision to be rendered in the Jody Arias murder trial.

I primarily watched TV3 but did switch to the other channels and found them to be essentially identical. All had breathless reporters commenting endlessly on the trial, the relatives, the dismissed juror and endless "what if's" regarding the outcome. The crowd being shown on TV was quiet and milling around awaiting the verdict yet was described multiple times as in a "frenzy" and "in chaos".

All of it was absolutely worthless. A waste of time and another exhibition of how shallow the current TV news business is these days.

For starters, this story wasn't about Arias' guilt. She already admitted that. What it was, was to determine at what level she would be convicted. Endless speculation is not proper journalism.

Phoenix TV news you had a unique opportunity to do it right and you've failed. Big time.

Very unprofessional.

landtuna, surely you must be mistaken.

I'm positive that CBS5 was not one of the stations that you were referring to. tvspy.com had a press release from CBS5's news director saying that they were NOT participating in the hype surrounding the Arias trial. Of course, she mentioned that they would be covering the trial in a professional manner and simply "telling it like it is". ::)

Sigh...only a 21st century news organization would hype the fact that they have no hype... ;)

I was amazed and disgusted at all the post verdict coverage...I mean come on...she was guilty...tell us that and get on with life. For crying out loud, the post verdict coverage was on longer that the pre-race coverage for NASCAR and it seems like THAT goes on for ever!

I'm a long-time viewer of KSAZ's Morning Show but it got turned off this morning and will stay off until they find something else to talk about besides the Arias trial. The endless BS and speculation is irritating - almost as much as their Idol coverage.

If it will make you feel any better, the good news is that in the rest of the nation, the news coverage has been such that the rest of us have been caught off-guard that there was such a trial, such an event. What news I saw last night and read in this morning's paper on the rightist's coast almost made it sound like the end result was some kind of a spectacular surprise!

I am confidant that in 3 or 4 years you local media will finally quit "shaking this story like a dog with his favorite rag-doll toy" and move on to something new.
