Design your Own Talk Station...

I am getting a little bored with the Line up on WIBC and WXNT. I love talk radio, and there are a lot of good shows on both stations, and there are alot of great shows. So, instead of letting the Evansville guys take over the board, lets talk News radio.

1. You are the PD at the new talk radio station at the new Cumulus station, and you need to create a line-up. First, what show would you create with local personalities, who are not currently in radio. Current or Past newscasters, Sports figures, Politicians, other personalities. Would it be a morning show or afternoon drive?

2. You get to steal shows from WIBC and WXNT.

I'll go first:

Morning: Abdul, but I would add a couple other reporters with good sense of humor... Abdul is already a good reporter and is pretty funny, and two more opinions and a little more of a "buddy" feeling would make the show stronger. And No Jawesq, we will not clone you. :) (Or maybe we throw Garrison on there. Wouldn't that be a hell of a show to listen to.)

Glenn Beck

Rush

Afternoon Drive: A Brand new show hosted by Mike Ahern. Ahern has a voice and a presence that would relax drivers after a stressful day. He also has a lot of contacts and a historical context. I just think he'd be a home run. And we have Andy Jacobs on his show on Fridays.

Neil Boortz

Hmmm, I can't really seem to find time for any of the WIBC hosts... I might give Garrison the 1 to 5 am slot.

If WIBC is so bad and Abdul is so good, explain to me why Abdul...your choice for AM drive, even gets slaughtered 2:1 consistently by Dr. Dean Edell on WIBC. Dean Edell is on Sunday afternoons from 3-6p. >

Very little advertising. But, that's changing, I believe (I saw an ad for Abdul last week in the "Star"). Listeners don't know they have a better option that Pidge, so they don't know any better, theoretically.

Well, that doesn't really answer my question does it? Don't get your feelings hurt because I don't find much of Indy's talk fresh or exciting. I like news radio, not crochet radio generally. What I do like about IBC is that they feel like Indiana. They feel like they'd live down the street. So Perry, what would you create?

I love Abdul, so he is an obvious choice. After 9 I would go with Neil Boortz over Glenn, then Rush. We need someone local on the drive home, and I like your Mike Ahern idea. But if not, even if we have to import someone to do a local show like WXNT did with Abdul, that would work, too. Then I would have to have Laura Ingram into the night, but other than that, I don't know how to fill weekdays.

700 wlw. Lots of local, hardly any network.

I'd have to admit I'm very bored with IBC also, but usually that's the first place I go when I hit the road, waiting for info and updates - which never seem to happen when needed, say 8:30pm when a women's basketball game is on - the world could be coming to an end, but they WON'T interrupt the game - SOMEONE might be listening!

I find myself having to remember to punch the XNT button. I'd listen if they'd do something live and fresh. But the ratings can't be used, in my opinion, as a barometer on which personality is better between the two stations, because I've listened to Dr. Dean Imdull without realizing I've got him on.

obviously Rush gives IBC the instant credility, but Garrison and Wilson have become a bore.

my two cents..
