Detroit Takes On Nashville

This Thursday night, it will be the battle of the Music Cities as the CMA Country Christmas special on ABC goes up against The Wiz Live on NBC. Both networks have lots of star power going for them. Queen Latifah plays the lead character, the Wizard of Oz. They're going to "ease on down the road" in the footsteps of Carrie Underwood's "The Sound of Music" and last year's "Peter Pan." Meanwhile, over at ABC, a diverse group of musical stars, from LeAnn Rimes to Darius Rucker to Pentatonix will sing Christmas music. Who will win? The spoiler might be CBS, broadcasting NFL Thursday Night Football featuring the Green Bay Packers playing the Detroit Lions. Detroit? Lions? Will the football game draw viewers from either musical special? We'll find out Thursday night.

I'm not a fan of what "The Wiz" is doing musically but the 1939 movie is my favorite of all time and for whatever reason I've never seen any version of "The Wiz". I don't even know if they stay faithful to the book, which I have a beautifully illustrated version of, or they are closer to the movie. Obviously they are not in Kansas, but there are differences between the book and the movie.

I don't intend to take any chances on finding out what is considered "country" or even "Christmas music".
