device to record incoming calls?

Hi,

Is there any kind of device we could hook up to a phone line so that when someone calls, the device kicks into recording mode and records up to 20 minutes of voice, and then when the person hangs up, the device goes back to sleep? We're looking to be able to set things up at our small station (we have one free phone line) so that people can phone in and record talk shows remotely.

An office phone system with a voicemail that can record messages that long?

(Full disclosure: I work for a company that makes those. ;) )

Google Voice. FREE! Create an account, and let the VM handle it.
Not even a phone line really necessary.
Once set up go to setting and uncheck the forwarding number
and enable forward to chat.
Let a desktop do the work.

Are you expecting calls from "the public"... people who are not equipped to match-up with your system?

I was blown-away recently with some very high quality drop-ins on our local NPR station. Here's what they are doing. Use you i-Fone in the "memo" function and record your material. Then E-mail the resulting audio file to the station.

Now, if you are wanting the authentic, crappy, telephone sound of old, the i-Fone bit will spoil your party.
