DFW Clear Channel Stations Using Jocks To Hawk Jobs

I heard something curious today on Dallas radio.
Has anyone else heard Bo & Jim on 92.5 or any of the other jocks at Clear Channel stations in the Metroplex hawking job openings in the sales department during their shows? I have heard it on three CC stations just today, including 102.9 Now and The Eagle. But what really disturbs me is it seems each jock is asking people interested in a sales job to email their resume to the jock's email address and saying they'll make sure it gets in the right hands. The JOCK's email address??? Please!!!! Since when did radio personalities become recruiters for the HR department? This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Another example of the "brilliance" of Crap Channel executives!

I live in central Oklahoma and have heard this very thing on Clear Channel KTOK 1000.

Not exclusive to Clear Channel. I remember Greggo voicing an opening for a then-Susquehanna research department job.

At some point in the show the on air guy kind of conversationally meanders into something like this: "Hey! are you looking for an exciting opportunity in some radio word that essentially means "ad salesperson". It's a great career and you can make lots of money. Other blathering here. Email your resume to woodyrr@stationemailaddress dot com and I'll pass it on. The local weather forecast . . . . "

Actually, those email addresses are the property of the company, they're not personal addresses. I advice people not to use company addresses for personal business. The company has the right to peer inside.

The use of on-air people to advertise station job openings is something DJs have been doing at least since the 60s. It also happens on TV. It's usually included in the program log. And by the way, the station can (and often does) point out these things in their community file as part of their public service.

This happens all the time. Usually, an on-air promo tells the interested party to call or email/fax their resume' to a sales manager and not to the jocks themselves.

The OP can speak for himself but, I've heard lots of "ads" for job openings at radio stations and they are just that - ads - voiced by a jock or the station manager or whatever, they are advertisements replete with all the verbal fine print and stuff.

I think the thing that caused me to perk up my ears the first time I heard this particular approach was the "arm around your shoulder", "send your resume' to your ol' radio buddy woodyrr", "I'll jump right up and trot that thing right over to where it needs to go" feel to the whole deal. It doesn't really matter to me. Whatever floats their boat and whatever works but, it really sounds strange.

I've never announced a job opening and suggested applicants send me their information, but I have received resumes and cover letters for positions advertised on the station in my work email. I wouldn't be surprised if they used the philosophy that the jock was going to get an email anyway so they might as well have him voice it and solicit the information.
