DFW Market Wide Test

Today a market wide test will be happening at 6:25 am pm 10:25 pm i will try to make a vid a post it here!

That was funny, too bad they really didnt shut the channels down and scare the hell out of people. I would've done something along the lines of Color Bars/Tone, while having a skull/crossbones image in the background and played some threatening music, that would've got the morons moving....

If they want to get people's attention they should do it in the middle of Judge Judy or Oprah.

For the music, I would recommend a repeating loop of music that accompanied Viacom's "Purple V of Doom" back in the 1970s and 1980s. For effect, I would have the skull and crossbones zoom in as well.

They didn't have a choice of what to run. The tape was provided by the FCC.

In other words, the station would run the tests ONLY using the material provided by the FCC? I always thought the stations (or group) could produce their own tape for the tests. In the Chicago board, it was mentioned that a recent DTV test involved Bozo the Clown, who was a legend in Chicago television.

To be a top 20 market and not able to get it together with a DTV test is a damned joke. KERA went with their own materials and handled it well, eventhough it was a character gen-based announcement/vo. Plus now, all the idiots are going to the wrong web address and getting potentially screwed by scammers.

You most likely have the best idea. ;D

What on earth are you talking about? I thought the market handled the test well. What went wrong?

what went wrong was that they should turned to static (fcc required)

It was a repeating loop that confused more people than educated. Im in agreement they should've gotten all the local channels to join up and produce a decent 2 min spot with local content (anchors, station mgmt, local celebs, ect..) or a c-gen placeholder(maybe with an indian head card), not "faked" tone/bars w/ static effect.

I disagree. I think it was just fine. I don't think I would have done some of the effects they did in it, but other than that I think the message was clear and it did the job.

IIRC the transmitter doesn't take kindly to being taken off the air and then turned back on. They operate best when they cruise at a nice even keel. They can do that 24/7. But turning the analog carrier off would have risked the station not coming back on in five minutes.

Houston will have its test on December 10th at 6:22am, 5:22pm and 10:22pm

Apparently there was some kind of malfunction with the 6:22 test that resulted in *everyone* getting THE TEST PATTERN OF DOOM.

In other words, EVERYONE "failed" -- even those watching the digital signals (and, maybe, even their subchannels).

Feburary 17's going to be a fun day. ::)
