Plan to attend the 1st DFW Radio 'Lunch Bunch' of 2009 THIS SATURDAY at Boston's Pizza on 635/LBJ just west of MacArthur in N. Irving, on the westbound service road. We'll meet at high noon (or whenever you can get there...we're usually still hanging around until 2 or so!) Same procedure as always...Dutch treat (we each pay for our own,) no speeches or formalities, just getting together with old friends (and making some new ones,) swapping stories and even some networking??? RSVP not mandatory, but I can get some sort of headcount if you'll email me back. (If you've already emailed me back, or accepted the invite on Facebook, no need to RSVP again...we'll see you there!)

Map link: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1100+Market+Pl,+Irving,+TX+75063&spn=0.031863,0.040403&hl=en

Spread the word, tell your radio friends, and bring a friend along!

Questions? Info? RSVP? Please shoot me some email.

See you on the 7th...Mike Shannon

(If you get your email kicked back, try sending to [email protected] instead.)

Great turnout! Good to see everybody! Very enjoyable!

One of these days I'll have to go stick my head in the door and say hi...Mike, it's great to see you still doing this. I guess the only other time all (or most of) you guys get together is for the Hall of Fame ceremonies every year.

Even though I couldn't atttend this one, I think it's fantastic that the event was on a Saturday this time. I wouldn't be surprised if the turnout was larger than if it had been on a weekday. Good call, Mike! :)

I ws unabl to attend myself but Mike ,,,definitely keep the saturdays it works better.

Mike,

I've I could get a heads up 30-60 days in advance I could get Saturdays off and be able to attend.

Thanks!

And who ordered the pizza with spermicide? :p

Actually, that was me. The waiter kinda gave me the "eye," so I figured better safe than sorry. ;D

Thanks to all for the nice comments. No guarantee on future Saturdays, but I may rotate it out...like next time on a Friday, after that on a Saturday, etc. I got a few complaints about doing it on a Saturday, but I noticed folks hung out MUCH longer then than they ever did on a Friday! (Only a couple of people had to go back to work later.) We all had a great time.

Attendees (and I think I got everybody here...apologies if I missed someone):

Sam Pate (KLIF, KBOX,) and his daughter Rosalyn and her photographer friend (missed her name)
Chad Hoker (Hi-Fi Club and GenX Radio Project)
Ted Sauceman (KMNY/KDFT and KWJS before that) and his office manager (missed her name)
Mike Henry
Andy Waldrop (Traffic.com in Houston; KDNT and many others before that)
Jay Weaver (KBUY, KRLD, KBOC and others, and Retro Radio)
Jim Thomas (KAAM, KFJZ, and KDMX/KBFB/KSOC/KMNY with "70s Saturday Night")
Randy Carlisle (Retro Radio)
Mike Simpson (KVIL, Dallas Cowboys Radio Network) and wife Carol
George Gimarc (KDNT, KDGE, KZEW and others)
Jo Interrante (KNUS as "Darcy Kane," KVIL and ABCRN)
Doc Bryce (KYNG/KLLI, KMSR and others, now in Hot Springs, AR radio)
Dan Lewis (KLLI, KMSR, WBAP and others)
Steve Cumming (WBAP, WRR, KLIF-570, and N Tx Radio for the Blind)
John Summers (KLUV)
Melissa Rasmussen (Clear Channel and Belo, + Retro Radio)
Bud Buschardt (WFAA-AM/TV, KVIL, ABCRN)
and me

YES, highly recommended for any and all to stop by next time. You never know who might show...Sam Pate was the very first radio reporter to report the death of JFK, so he had plenty of great stories to tell.

And hat's off to Larry Shannon (no relation,) who got this whole lunch group thing started about 6 years ago. I'm just keeping it going in his absence. We'll do another one in about 3 months.

I'm glad that I was able to catch the lunch Saturday. It just so happen to work out for me while I was in town for a Father/Daughter dance Friday night. I've heard about the previous ones through another person and just couldn't make it.

It was great seeing known faces, faces that goes with the well known voices, and others from past stations. The only thing that sucked was it was so close to Fry's, and didn't get the opportunity to stop there after the luncheon. I had to get back to Arlington to load up my stuff and head back to Hot Springs, but I was glad that I got to stay as long as I did just to get 3 years caught up in 4 hours.

Great Job Mike on the event, look forward to going to more if I can make it to town. That 5 hour drive is not as easy as it once was when I was in my 20's.

As for everyone else that was there, I promise to mingle more next time. I had a lot of catching up to do with Dan Lewis. lol

Just read about this today (monday). Dang my computer for going out on me last week.

I have never been a part of DFW radio, when I took RTF in college I was in the F (film) part, but always was a fan of radio. Hope these get togethers are not limited to only those with radio experience. I'd love to attend the next one. Sounds like an interesting group.
