DFW Radio Predictions For 2008

Since we're just over a month away from the new year, let's post our predictions for 2008. You can be as serious or as far fetched as you like.

With that in mind:

1. Ron Chapman buys KVIL and restores it to its glory years

2. Russ Martin admits he's over the hill and retires. His replacement is TBA.

3. Running low on funds, KEOM installs an observation deck on the tower and allows visitors to take the 15 minute trip up one of the tower legs for a breathtaking view. The admission fee will be $88.50 per person.

100.3..same
100.7..same
101.1 same
102.1 same or goes Active Rock
102.9 same or incorporates more Rythmic Product to better battle Movin(in the 90s Rythmic Product outpaced Rock product on Top 40 and still does by huge margins and always will...Mix needs to get and keep these new demos by playing all the hits from the 80s, 90s and Today not just some of them)

97.1: They realized they made a mistake and flip it back to Rock or Alternative
102.1: Format Flip to active rock since they fired everyone who made it "The Rock Alternative"
105.3: Flips to AR, Classic Rock or Country, since Russ and Gavin Spitcup cant get it together

Gee, no mention of any AM stations.

What does that tell you about the future....?

OK here's one for the AM stations.

They all do away with IBOC.

Ok, here's some:

The music on KEOM will continue to predate the students playing it by over 20 years.

People will continue to bash KLUV's music.

KLUV will have an AMT, music will be freshened up, and people will bash the changes.

Dallas radio will be discussed the same way it always has been on here...like the two old guys on the Muppet show. (Yes I was the same person who said it 3 years ago)

Gavin Spittle willl be relieved of his duties at KRLD/105.3fm.

The Twister will flip to something---anything else.

KLIF will adopt a new slogan.

Lonestar will be playing 8 minutes of spots per hour.

But Waldorf and Statler were right most of the time!!! (Oh wait...... ;)

WBAP dumps Mark Levin in favor of a local 5-8 p.m. show with Larry Dixon....

ooohhhh, i like that!

KEOM: Dr. Griffin finally retires August 1 - Peggy Brooks takes over as the new GM, and brings back on-air guy Kristofer Morgan (from mid 90's) to do a morning show and PD. Robert Bass stays on as MD, but the format changes - completely.

Do we win a prize if we get anything right?

Maybe... But methinks ya need to revise that retirement date for Dr. G., by two months. :) However, you are not eligible to win if you are employed by KEOM ;) Of course Steve an Ed are having a hard time as it is trying to tell me I can't win two free BBQ dinners from the Mesquite BBQ, during our football broadcasts, as it is. ;D

That WBAP and KTCK will continue to be the 2 highest billing stations in the market, proving that AM is far from dead?

Good call! I'm one of those who thinks the only thing that will kill the AM band, is IBOC.

Your 'average' listener, (who by the way most likely lives in the heart of the DFW metroplex) can't tell the difference in audio qualtiy and lives close enough to the main transmitter site (s) that any drop of in signal is inconsequential...

I see a ton of audophiles here who complain about it, but I've never heard of a listener complaint about it...And trust me, I get listener complaints on every other subject known to man...

Light jazz comes back...Imus in the morning on WBAP...Hal Jay and Mark Davis move to KRLD...KLIF sold to a Hispanic group...Russ Martin runs for mayor.

My man, whatever you are enjoying for the holidays, I would like to buy a bag of that. Even if does mean delusions of grandeurs for jazz's triumphant return in Big D. ;D :'(

Uh oh... Will he be known as the dead air mayor, if elected?

And his inaugural parade will be spent in the Batmobile with two bikini-straddled bimbos riding shotgun. Yeah, now that's an office to vote for. Now, if only those bimbos had teeth and upward mobility?! ::)

Well, here is what you predicted for 2008. Some of it actually came true... sort of

The Eagle returned to rock (I know this happened in 12/07 but the prediction was made in 11/07)

Russ Martin has indeed "retired"

The Twister & Live 105.3 did flip

Larry Dixon has returned to the air (although not on WBAP)

Okay, how about predictions for 2009? Anyone care to go first??

If the rulemaking gets FCC approval to move all AM's to TV channels 5 & 6 as proposed. Things could get interesting. Is it too late? Mexico and Canada have already made moves to "fix" AM's by moving them.
