DFW Talk Radio

I was just curious what everyone thought of talk radio here in the metroplex. As you can see, I am a talk radio nut or more like junkie. I tend to enjoy KLIF and the Ticket. The wife and I enjoy Dunham & Miller on the Ticket in the AM and The Wells Report in the afternoon on KLIF. We tune into to Jeff Bolton on KLIF in the AM every now and then. We prefer these shows because they are local and quite informative and entertaining. The Wells Report has really improved since it's been on the air here and it seems to have found a niche in DFW radio. And we have been listening to Dunham and Miller forever. Ok, let the opinions begin. :D

Talk radio in Dallas = Suck fest of EPIC proportions, with the exception of Russ Martin on Live 105.3. For the most part, it's conservative blowhards that are simply moronic with some of their positions.

I'm sure you WERE an Air America Junkie. Suckfest you want, suckfest you got with that. Bankrupt is the ultimate in proof of what sucks. Let's see, the "blowhard" conservative talkers like Rush have been on the air for how long?

Too long! Talk radio is who can get who angry the most, beat up democrats, blame society ills on liberals, give only a "few "factual pieces of information to back up your arguement, disregard facts that proves your opinion wrong. Disguise your opinion as fact, only have callers on that either support your opinion or if needed find the weakest voice, the most easily sidetracked, and easy to confuse caller and have them represent the counterpoint. IF you can provoke a caller with a counter argument, who will give in easily to swearing ,the better to cut them off.

Follow the above guidelines and you too can be a talk show host.

Do you people not travel? Is it all of talk radio that sucks or all things Dallas? Or is that the auto-response to any request for opinion on this board?

Sit offshore and not be able to get anything except S. Florida radio and you be much more generous about Dallas radio.

After listening to QAM for two weeks I would have gladly listened to Laura Ingraham on KSKY,
LOL.

The state of DFW talk radio is dismal. Mainly because there’s so little to chose from. You really have only a couple of choices.

If you’re into sophomoric talk, devoid of all substance and deliberation, you have Russ Martin, the Hard Line and their ilk.

If you’re into conservative extremism you have KLIF and KSKY. The new guys on KLIF are truly scary in their radical approach to the world. To hear them tell it, all the problems of the world can be attributed to illegal immigration and Nancy Pelosi. I’ve been conservative all my life, but I’ve rarely heard such extremism as we hear daily from KLIF.

The only intelligent talk radio in the market is from Mark Davis. However, he often leans toward the hard right, as well.

The only talk radio choices we have are either very dumb or very spooky. That's why I recently bought XM.

Almost makes one wish for the days of Morton Downey Jr, Chuck Harder, Bo Gritz, and Ron Engelman doesn't it. ::)

Don't forget Larry King. He had a terrific late-night talk show.

Caller: "Larry, I have three points to make."

King: "NEXT CALLER!"

And how about the show that the late Rod Roddy had here back in the 60s. I can't remember what station it was on, but I'll never forget the night that he got into a shouting match with Miss America. He spilled hot coffee all over himself. Went into an absolute screaming fit! He could often make Joe Pine seem rather tame . . .

Does anyone know if a copy of that incident is available online?

Talk radio can be just entertaining, depending on the host.

Talk radio can be informative.

Talk radio can be broing.

It just depends on who you are listening to, and what they are talking about.

Talk radio at it's worst..... it still much better than coporate classic rock radio playlists. There's an entrenched slant that will never go away!

BTY, if you want to hear the liberal viewpoint.... then turn on you [EDIT] television set ! ! ! Most all of the dramas and many of the sit-coms ALL have liberal themes! The liberal message is constant, or don't you see that ??

I'll go for the Fairness doctrine on "Radio" when the Fairness Doctrine is also apllied to Network television shows !!!!

[EDIT-profanity]

Yep all liberals are Godless individuals who permeate our airwaves to socially brain wash our children. Democrats are bad..bad Thank God for the liberals and Democrats. If it weren't for them nobody would have heard of Rush,Mark,Sean,Boortz, and never would receive a chance to get hung up on for correcting their "opinions". Those guys would be out of a job and that certainly wouldn't help the economy, now would it?

Not really...Darrell was just a minor blip on the radar...

I, for one, really miss the "Chuck Howley Hotline Show" on KBOX.

Too long! Talk radio is who can...beat up democrats, blame society ills on liberals, ...disregard facts...

Golf clap for KPLEXCOMPLEX. Very nicely stated. I'll add my personal peeve, "label non-conservatives as "un-American". I don't mind listening to either side of an argument, conservative or liberal, but as soon as someone calls someone with a differing opinion "un-American", I stop listening.

Which is why KLIF got removed from my presets recently.

Anyone ever noticed the height of talk radio as we know it now began with folk like Downey, Farber, Boortz and the like? Wanna know why? A little aforementioned personality trait affectionately known as EXTREMISM. It sells! It like sex on the ears... anything that can get complete strangers so hot and bothered they are convinced to do something they usually don't do... like, um, call a stupid radio station and gripe out someone they don't know because they don't agree with them morally, ethically, sociopolitically or ecumenically.

Folks, we need to realize -- regardless what dark side of the political fence we straddle -- both sides sell.

Keep in mind, the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side... because the water bill is usually higher. :-*

I couldn't have said it better myself. I've enjoyed talk radio for years. But the condescending attitude towards those of differing opinions will drive me to the XM button on my radio every time. Our learned hosts seem unable consider the prospect that an opinion contrary to their own might hold some validity.

Talk radio appears to have lost it’s way. It has now become a forum for those with an agenda.

No, I wasn't an Air America junkie ... as that swayed too far in the other direction for my tastes. I have joined the satellite radio nation with Sirius and enjoy what I get from that. I don't listen to Stern though, I listen more to NASCAR channel 128, along with a lot of the music channels.

The only talk radio host worth a damn was Phil Hendrie. He poked fun at these shows, and he was damn funny. Its too bad he doesn't do a talk show anymore.

More golf claps for KPLEX. KPLEX, you have a great ear. I agree that Phil Hendree was the funniest thing on radio since the old National Lampoon Radio Hour back in the 70's. I wish he would return. Jaco, you're on your way with Sirius. There's no doubt that Sat radio is the cure for bad terrestrial although you should give Stern a try. I never heard Stern until I got Sirius a few weeks ago. He is hysterical after you listen a couple of times. I have both XM (Office) and Sirius (Car) and for what it's worth XM plays better music (with better channel choices) and Sirius has Stern.

KPLEX, as for DFW bad talk, you aluded to the Elisia Frishberg show on KMNY 1360 in another post. I heard the show a few weeks ago and I say you have pegged another one correctly. The show is so bad it's funny in a strange way. The problem is that Elisia Frishberg has no idea that she is that bad and with the many colored glasses Dan Frishberg wears, he probably thinks she's the best new thing in talk radio. That is a radio show that could garner a larger following as a comedy, but if you told the Frishbergs they would probably be offended. Anyway, good ear!
