Dialing for Dollars

Then about maybe during the early 80s, KTAL-6 did theirs similar to DFD. I think they had their "Cash Call" during the news (6 or 10pm IIRC) and at the time I believe call a viewer randomly to get the correct count and amount during commercial breaks of Wheel of Fortune (syndicated, by the way).

When the syndicated WOF made its debut in fall 1983, I remember the then-WRAU-19 (ABC) in Peoria, IL (which became WHOI New Year's Day 1985 and was the original syndie home of Wheel and Jeopardy in the Peoria/Bloomington market until they moved to CBS affiliate WMBD-31 in fall 1992) doing a similar "Cash Call" contest during commercial breaks on "Wheel." I would have only been 6 years old at that time and only vaguely remember seeing those contest spots, which seemed to resemble a "Dialing for Dollars" format. Could this had been a national promotion for the then-new syndicated WOF or could this have just been a Shreveport and Peoria phenomenon (and perhaps other markets)?
