Diane Sawyer Head To "The View?"

The timing is just too convenient.

Baba retires.
Diane leaves World News (voluntarily or not).
ABC fires the Baba's producer and all panelists on "The View" - except Whoopi (so far).

Whoopi Goldberg becomes lone host on 'The View' after ABC's surprise firings
ABC executives have canned everyone on the morning talk-show except for Goldberg. Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy were let go, and while it was reported that executive producer Bill Geddie is also out, an insider said he’s negotiating a new contract and is expected to return.

Full disclosure: Diane's husband Mike Nichols directed Whoopi's one-woman show on Broadway.

When they listed in the announcement the things Diane Sawyer would be doing, The View was not on the list. I guess they could add that to the list of duties at a future date if that is what they wish to do.

Is it possible Diane doesn't (now) want to do The View? She would rather concentrate on the Globe Traveling "hard news" feature interviews? Maybe as age begins to sneak up on here physically, sitting still and doing something like The View could become more attractive to her.

Sometimes coincidences are juts that. A conspiracy does not lurk behind every corner.

GRC: If Diane is planning to fill Baba's role that role includes "globe traveling" interviews and The View.
Look at all the parallels between the two...
Morning show co-host.
Evening news presenter.
Primetime news magazine co-host.
High profile interviews.

Baba gave substance and credibility to The View (at least on a part-time basis). Besides Diane, who else can keep doing that? Certainly not Whoopi (if she goesn't get the ax, too).

Whoopi isn't getting the ax. I don't know her opinions, but she's "moderator" and too big (Emmy winner, Oscar winner, Tony winner, Academy Awards host, etc.) to be dropped like Sherri or Jenny McCarthy.

It'd be interesting if ABC hired Holly Robinson Peete, as another Black anchor replacing Shepperd. She was unceremoniously dropped from CBS' The Talk. Networks like to hire other network's former on air talent especially over controversy.

There was talk about hiring a guy, to change things up. I think they should really mix it up in terms of gender (maybe even find a transgender), and then find others in extreme ends of economic status, political beliefs, religious beliefs etc to get real points/views across, but give them just 6 month contracts rather than a full year if they don't perform well with audiences. Maybe just find a random person from the street as well, but someone educated enough. The way the View started, it found rather 4 random people (aside from Barbara) and put them together at a table.

More realistically, I don't think that will happen. I think they will hire 2-3 new people who have been around in television, and 1-2 will be existing ABC staff: Lara Spencer, Deborah Roberts, or one of the other GMA ladies (including the weekend anchors), and others from ABC News who will be recurring guest co-hosts. Having existing ABC staff on air will cut payroll costs. ABC likes to do this: Strahan on GMA, Cecily Tynan (from WVPI) will appear on as the GMA weather anchor, etc..
