Dick Bartley Is Leaving "Cruisin' 93.5" and WTRY Starting March 31st

I heard the news on the main page that Dick Bartley is leaving the airwaves on March 31st. Which means, Hudson's WZCR's "Cruisin' 93.5" and WTRY in Albany are dropping "American Gold" from its schedule. I hope he will wish him good luck.

I remember that show when it was on the former WBPM's "Cool 92.9" a few years ago and it was a good playing the oldies as well as "Rock & Roll's Greatest Hits" when it was also usually heard on Saturday nights on WHUD many years ago and I enjoyed Dick Bartley so much when it was syndicated on WHUD back in the late 90's and early 2000's.

I'm really sure we're gonna miss him so much. :( Good luck in the future.

Disney, you can be such a tool!...Do you even bother to read the full story?

Bartley tells R&R that he will continue to produce "American Gold" and "Rock & Roll's Greatest Hits" shows for ABC through the end of March. He calls it an amicable end to the 18 year working relationship and is already looking into future distribution opportunities so current affiliates will be able to continue with the show seamlessly.

As the piece I posted states AGAIN

Bartley is looking into future distribution opportunities so current affiliates will be able to continue with the show seamlessly.

That means stations that run the show NOW will most likely continue to run the show in the future. It just means the program will not come from ABC, which essentially means your headline for this post is a lie.

And Ryan Seacrest is going to host American Idol! Did you hear that one?

Bart Dickley gone?? Good friggin' riddance. Any local programmer/ talent that is worth his salt could come up with a show that is better than Dickley. Ever hear any really good obscure stuff in his playlist. No. Forgotten 45?? same old crap u hear every day with the 400 song "safe rotation" What an over rated wind bag.....

oldies4ever ;D

WTF does that mean??

I was wondering that myself. Bartley is bailing from ABC Radio Networks...like everybody else. Since Citadel took it over, they have had a huge brain drain and even 24/7 product like JACK have found greener pastures elsewhere (Dial-Global).

Dick Bartley will be just fine. He is a radio man and an astute businessman who knows his market, enjoys his work, makes it enjoyable for his listeners and knows how to make it all work for those who are associated with him. Dick Bartley is leaving no one, but is being true to his profession, to himself and the dignity of both. Grace, class, character and loyalty are attributes that withstand the test of time, trials and tribulations. Not only do I wish Dick the best but I wish Dick Bartley Godspeed.

No need for anyone to turn out the lights when you leave. Dick Bartley will still be on the scene.

It's The Silkie! "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away." The song reached #10 in 1965. The song was written by John Lennon and appears on Rubber Soul. Say the word and you'll be free.

The song actually appears on the Beatles "Help" album, released a few months before Rubber Soul. Its a great song, and the Silkie did a great cover version of it too. Both versions were on the charts simultaneously during the Fall
of 1965....

WTRY won’t loose any syndicated programming. If anything WTRY and her sisters will all be adding canned product if Tom Taylor’s recent posts about CC are any indication:

Round 2 of Clear Channel cuts – February 20?
Heard that late last night. This T-R-I newsletter has been predicting that the Inauguration Day layoffs (1,850, across all of Clear Channel) wouldn't be the last ones dictated by San Antonio. Now I'm hearing that Friday, February 20 could be the next day to watch out for.

Clear Channel debt ratings may go “deeper into junk territory” – and Moody’s warns of possible covenant breaches. That possible downgrade from “B2” wouldn’t just be because of radio revenues – outdoor is weak, too. Moody’s says “the rating action reflects concern that radio revenues in 2009 will turn out to be lower than expected, and the company’s cash flow could decline to levels that would weaken credit metrics and cause a breach of financial covenants.” That’s the first time I can recall a Wall Street player warning about newly-private Clear Channel veering toward a breach of its leverage ratios. Another factor now dragging down the forecasts – CC’s international business, which has heretofore resisted the U.S. malaise.

Not quite the same. It is rather difficult to hide feathers.

And how long do the listeners, who really pay the bills by patronizing advertisers, put up with canned product? Like I said grace, class, character and loyalty are attributes that withstand the test of time, trials and tribulations.

Interesting question. They put up with Bartley for a long time. He's canned product.

What you have to say reflects upon you, no one else.

nah, Bart Dickley's show is predictable, "safe" stuff thats beat to death over and over, and sorry, anything over the bird is canned. Like I said- If someone with a knowledge of oldies and a decent library couldn't do better than Dickley, it's sad. And oh, by the way, someone local that you could request a song or send out a dedication to would be a breath of fresh air....hmm live, local and knowlegeable???? THATS THE WAY RADIO IS SUPPOSED TO BE.....

RIP TO BART DICKLEY'S SORRYASS SHOW...don't let the door hit you on the way out..... :'(

warm590 ;D

I would love it if WTRY finally had someone live in the studio on Saturday nights. Either doing a Sat Nite 70's show from 7-12 like CBS-FM or a request and dedication show or the regular format automated. Anything that i just wrote would be a lot better and refreshing instead of Bartley.

You don't need to care whether there's someone live in the WTRY studio Saturday night. A former WTRY weekend DJ, until they told him to stick more to the station's limited playlist, is just up the dial at 97.9 at WRIP. Long time area radio voice Bill Lawrence plays all the oldies from the 50's to the 70's, including rare recordings from his personal collection, on his "Rip Retro Saturday Night" show from 8pm to midnight LIVE and LOCAL every Saturday night. So, as Conan O'Brian's dog would say, "POOP ON WTRY SATURDAY NIGHT".
And if you can't get WRIP with it's rural signal the station just started streaming as reported in another post.
