Dick Biondi has passed away

He played at it at WLS in February of 63. Vee Jay was in the Chicago area. He did play it At KRLA that summer.

That's not what he says in the video. But Wikipedia agrees with you. I don't see an exact timeline for when he left for LA.

PBS has posted a video (from "Chicago Tonight") featuring Biondi talking about the early days of Top 40 and his playing The Beatles "Please Please Me" in 1962 1963 (attributed as the first playing of the group in the US):

My apologies for the typo; I *knew* it was 1963 (from previous historical articles/stories) but somehow I typed "1962".
