Dick Biondi signs on with "True Oldies 94.7"

Who the heck is his audience? He is 70+ years old? All the old people are dead!
It says he will be doing the 7-midnight shifts. So we are going to hear dead air after 8 pm. Hell, that’s when they go to bed?!?

Granted, some of that music is good and worth listening too. But I don’t want to hear a 70 year old man fart, wheeze and gurgle on the air!

We need young, strong talent today. These guys need to let go of the reigns and go away. Retire already.

Let the comments begin

According to the release, he got the most votes from those old, dead codgers...go figure.

Biondi is the best i like his shows, heck im only 23, i grew up listening to the oldies music and to Biondi. Im happy to hear him agian.

Me (age 19). My 24 year old sister. My 46 year old mom. A girl I had a crush on in 3rd grade. Her friend. Those are just a few that I know off the top of my head. He's well known and loved by all sorts of people. Not just people in their 60s and 70s.

There's a group on the college social-networking website Facebook of fans of the former 104.3 WJMK, where several younger people have mentioned missing Dick Biondi the most.

There are 86 members - here are some comments from the group:

"yes but, oldies 104.3 is the best because of dick beonde (I can't even spell his name right, that's how awesome he is)."

'94.7 has John Records Landecker in the afternoons now...but I miss Dick Biondi too! I actually went to the Toy Drive 3 years in a row...I have 2 talking bobbleheads. Last year I really missed not having a toy drive to go to."

I agree. I know a lot of jocks in their late 60's and they sound just as young, vivacious as they were in their 30's. If you're still alert, quick, healthy and can bring in listeners. Why not?

I think the appeal is a lot of people who grew up with the guy (and his music) during his "legendary" days when he was one of the most "out there" voices on the radio. His appeal is not unlike that of Harry Caray. The occasional gaffes, awkward segues, less-than-precise timing, etc. have become part of the appeal. On top of that, from what Feder was saying, it sounds like the guy is going to have a lot more freedom than he was ever given by the CBS suits who ran 'JMK.

For those of you who don't like old broadcasters/old rock and roll....C'mon! In most markets you've got a dozen or so channels playing more current stuff. Quit yer bitchin' having about one or two outlets for the pioneers who built your franchise.

Biondi has always been a fantastic, passionate broadcaster. I, for one, can't wait to hear him again....especially if he's indeed "unmuzzled".

I hear you.
We have Rick Dees here in Los Angeles that just started at the new Movin 93.9 which is targeted at
a young latina female audience. He's 56 and still sounds young and great as he did 20 years ago.

Mr. Biondi is the way radio should re-become. His first show should be awesome. This is a great way to bring in the
holidays. Bravo!

That is great news about Dick and John. Congratulations to both. But, I'm wondering if someone can help me understand this. As far as I know, the sale of WLS and WZZN has not yet compleeted. I have to wonder if ABC talked to the new owners to find out that they wanted to stay with oldies? The same with WLS as they brought someone new on in the programming department, as well as a new weekend host. Or, maybe the sale fell through all together? It seems like the new company could go in a different direction. I expected hires like this, but not until after the sale. What do you all think?

Somebody asked; I have to wonder if ABC talked to the new owners to find out that they wanted to stay with oldies?

Hear this; ALL contracts of the old owner belong to the old owner. A new owner could come in and say "buh BYE" without any teensie weensie problem.

That's show biz!!!!!

But you do want to hear someone who actually KNOWS SOMETHING about that good music...............not some twenty-something reading off of a script!
