Dick Clark health update.

How is Dick Clark doing healthwise these days?As you all know he suffered a mild stroke in December and was hospitalized for 6 weeks or so back in December.

Any updates on his current condition?Have heard anything in a while about his recovery,i assume its still the same.

I wonder if there is any chance we will see Dick Clark in public before his New Years Eve special on Dec 31?

It seems his stroke must have been more serious than his pr guy is admitting or something like that,

I was at the supermarket today, and the cover of one of the tabloids suggested his health was deteriorating. Consider the source, I guess.

I wouldn't take anything from the tabloids. They might say that he's dying when he's not. It would take a spokesperson for the family to say whether his health is deteriorating or not.

While I can not describe myself a close personal friend of Dick Clark and his wife Kari, I have met them a few times and while in L. A. I have been warmly welcomed to stop by and say hello at Dick Clark Productions. He has always made a little time to meet with my family and me. My connection to Dick Clark is simply we are both from Utica, N. Y. and I worked at a radio station (WRUN AM/FM) once partly owned and managed by his father Dick Clark Sr. It was Dick’s first job in broadcasting.

After I had heard he had the stroke I called the office and talked to Kari very briefly. She assured me he was fine and would be hosting Rocking New Years Eve. Well, that never happened. . I did send a get-well card and later wrote her a personal letter. I have not heard from her since. So I guess he and his family have decided to keep his recovery out of the public eye. I certainly respect his wish for privacy and wish him well. He seems to be as nice in person as he appears to be on TV – a class act.

I was just in Southern California and a L. A. radio station is still using his voice in a TV spot.

I too have seen those Dick Clark being "near death" stories in those mags, while I agree with you about "considering the source", however there have been a few times over the years when those tabloids were actually right when it comes to reporting when someone is really near death. Dick Sargent from Bewitched was one I remember and I think it was the Globe that reported about Johnny Carson being in his "last days" only a few weeks before he actually died. Of course, then againsome of these mags have reported about so and so dying for years before they actually died. Frank Sinatra is one I can think of, They were reporting him being in his "last days" for I know at least 5 years before his actual death. Same with Doris Day who is still alive of course. I think in her case didn't she actually sue one of those magazines when not only they reported her so-called being near death but was so totally out of her mind that she was seen eating out of trash cans as a bag lady? I wonder whatever became of that suit?

And we all should be the same: respectful of his wishes to recover (or fail to) on his own terms. He's earned that without a doubt. When he's ready to go public, we're ready to receive him. Until then, we should let him, his wife, and his relations have their space.

If only those $1.49 celebrity salmonwrappers would see it that way. Sigh.

Just like Carson and his family, the Clark family deserve their space. If Mr. Clark decides to retire from the biz, I hope people will back off and let him enjoy whatever amount of time he has left in this life.<P ID="signature">______________
