Dick Clark Signs Through 2022

ABC has renewed Mr. Clark's contract until 2022... apparently the ABC execs feared Clark would be signed by TBS which plans on doing a live countdown from Time Square.

Ryan Seacrest's contract current runs until 2066, and will more than likely be extended also.

Interesting that TBS is thinking about getting into the NYE Countdown business, first Late Night (which is pretty successful,) and now this...

I don't know why anyone worries that someone else will want Dick Clark. I guess his speech impediment doesn't bother people. And for someone who has to be 80, he sure doesn't look it.

Now I do wish someoine would steal Ryan Seacrest. I found Carson Daly more pleasant. I had to go from one channel to another, hoping to avoid what passes for music. I wish someone would do Guy Lombardo and the Waldorf-Astoria. Even PBS doesn't any more.

I saw most of Dick's commentary and went to bed when he kissed Kari. I was pleased the Lombardo version of "Auld Lang Syne" was played.

Basically they've given him a lifetime contract.

Would this be a typo? Seacrest would be 92 years old in 2066...and they want to extend the contract further? ::)

This has to be questionable. With the health problem that Clark has for the past 10 years we don't know if Clark can make to 2022. Also Seacrest that 2066 part has to be a joke. Will ABC or any network still exist in 2066. Will TV still exist in 2066 and we have no clue if Seacrest will still be alive in 2066.

um, if Mr. Clark were to pass, I don't think enforcing the contract would be an issue. I see nothing wrong with extending him to 2022. otoh, extending Seacrest forever... ok the whole thing is a joke.

April 1 must have come early. I made a reference to Vanessa Perhach (Google that up) on Facebook that was so obscure, few didn't understand... and then, I almost fall for this story! :D I'll still share it, though... :p

Please tell me no one considered this as true for a split second. Doesn't the URL say enough?

FDR said people would dead by the time they were 57 when Social Security was passed. Do you find something unusual about a person living to age 93?

I have a few family members in their 90's now, with a great aunt that will turn 93 on April 23rd. I personally don't expect to live that long. If I take after my dad's side on life expectancy, then I'll live at the most, 66. If I take after my mom's side, I could live into my early 70's to early 80's.

Seacrest would still be a year younger than Clark would be when his deal's up.

NBComcastUniversal is getting very cozy with Seacrest, as of lately. Would anyone be surprised if they strike a deal with dick clark productions to move the show over to NBC?

I've heard around the mill that the producers of Idol may no longer be interested in Seacrest's services because of his hefty price tag.

All joking aside, Dick Clark will be DEAD by 2022 (he'd be 93)!

Not necessarily. Kirk Douglas had a major stroke in 1996. He's now a 16 year survivor, and is still living at age 95.

You'd be amazed on how many people survive a near fatal stroke and live to tell about it, and to live a full life. I wouldn't be surprised if Dick Clark makes it through his 90's. I too had a near fatal stroke some 21 years ago at the age of 31. I'm 52 and doing just fine and still having a blast working in radio and TV. :)

From what I've read, Clark's '70's version began on NBC, and ran for 2 years. He did do a NYE version of "American Bandstand" one year in the late '50s. All of the other NYE shows have been on ABC.

They'll just do the Futurama thing and put his head in a jar.

There is a great demographic who grew up together with Dick Clark, and who leave the rip current of people in Times Square and the "gotta be somewhere" bar scenes to the amateurs we once were. By rip current of people, anyone who has ever done Times Square on New Year's Eve knows that if you are not literally tied to the people you are partying with, like mountain climbers, you just kind of get swept along by the throngs, much the same way you would drift out to sea in a gentle rip current, until you can no longer see the shoreline and wonder how far out you really are, or whether you should just continue to loll on your raft until a ship comes along. Eventually the current releases its grip and you wash up at your hotel, where you catch up with your friends. Or you walk a mile or grab a cab when you finally get your bearings.

Dick Clark represents a very large piece of pop culture Americana.
