DICK MORRIS APRIL FOOLS JOKE ON WPHT?

You may think it's an april fools joke about Dick Morris being chosen for afternoons on WPHT's talk radio. WPHT promos itself as live and local, that's not true, Dick lives in New York and Washington D.C. not Philadelphia.
Dick is not even worth while in predicting the last election a day before he paid the media to predict Romney's win with millions of dollars from the GOP, and still Romney lost.
The April fools joke is on CBS and WPHT radio and the poor fools that listen from Philadelphia. If they really wanted to be live and local they could have hired Al Gardner who has left 106.9 FM and is still going to reside in Philadelphia.

They've already stretched "live and local" pretty thin. Smerconish may have been in the building but he wasn't doing a local show.

Speaking of what they could have done, CBS has Wally Kennedy sitting over at KYW reading wire copy. What a waste of a good talk show host.

As I have said elsewhere, CBS has a vested interest in not allowing WPHT to be too successful, lest it pull listeners away from KYW. The right wing rant format (with second tier hosts because they lost the best ones) is about the best they can do without hurting 1060. If they get too newsy on PHT people might tune away from KYW, and if they get too local on PHT people might tune away from KYW. Really good, keep 'em honest local talk would be great for PHT but they make a half-hearted effort at best. Hiring Morris means they have no plans to do better, JMOTS.

Talking about a waste, former WCAU-AM morning anchor Steve Highsmith working behind the scenes on WPHL & on the air 1 day a year for the Mummer's Parade is a waste. He was an excellent host on WCAU back in the '80's.

Sorry, doesn't quite add up. CBS can and does sell the two stations as a package. The only way for CBS to lose audience is for people to listen to IQ (or some other station). It is in CBS' interest to keep 1210, to keep both stations, strong. But since they have already lost much of their audience (along with the syndicated hosts they used to carry), that ship has sailed.

The ideological talk format is slipping. Smerconish was right about that. It would make sense for CBS to try something different. Unfortunately, Morris is SOS.

CBS may also have decided AM radio is lost cause. They can milk KYW for a while longer but it's a waste to try to build up 1210.

That's exactly my point. CBS wants the stations to have two distinct audiences. That's why WPHT can't be informative or newsy -- which makes it awful hard in my opinion for PHT to be a compelling station.

No question that Morris is a skilled entertainer who had the good luck to latch onto an amazing candidate (Bill Clinton) in the 90's. However, his "predictions" have been an utter joke for years and he constantly changes them. The Romney is guaranteed to win prediction was laughable. An entertaining snake oil salesman. He really is not a far right type of guy. He is a "how can I fleece everyone" type. I give it a year at most.

I am no fan of Dick Morris, but why pick a fight over WPHT's "live and local" claim? As a promotion, containment and configuration of "local" hardly sound like fightin' words.

That's an explosive charge, one I've never heard elsewhere, not even from Looney Nancy Pelosi or Chris Madman Matthews. Assuming you're serious, why flag it here on R/D? Wouldn't it make more sense to deep-throat your evidence to the hungry hounds of the news media? Every news network, even FOX News, would jump on a scoop like yours!

I heard a promo mentioning something about Gary R Nel cohosting, maybe this is temp until 1210 sells, why have a cohost of Morris is new?
