Dick Richards has passed on.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Dick gave me a start in the business many years ago. He was a colorful character ("Hey Babe!") and had an amazing set of pipes. A really nice man, too. RIP.

Alas.

I'd just joined this board to inquire about some people I remember from that era and found this. I worked with him at WKMC for a while. I remember Donna, too, who I think was in sales there. I hadn't heard that they'd married. I lost track of both by the early 1980s.

I had the pleasure of working with Dick at WFBG AM-FM-TV in '62 and '63. He
had a teriffic knowlege of music and
his mid-day radio sure sure reflected that when he had something to say about the artists before and after each song. Record librarian Leona Suhar really knew HER stuff, too, and between them
the pulled the right stuff for every show.
I remember how in love with Faye he was
in those days. And what a mop of hair! He didn't have to put anything on it to stay in place and shiny. A bona fide Italiano ladies' man. Altoona's Mr. Smoothie. In my memory he has always defined a certain sense of excellence.
Ciao, Bro.

It's always a sad day when the world loses a true gentleman. I worked with Dick both before and after my tour of duty with Armed Forces Radio Vietnam. Any one who has worked with him (or even just listened to his comforting, melodious voice) recognizes what a truely nice guy he was. Along with "Big John" Reilly, Dick will be remembered as one of the pioneers of radio in Altoona. I'm honored to have known and to have learned from him.

Dick Richards was part of a tremendous line up of On Air talent at WFBG-AM during the late 50's and early 60's. It included Big John, Dick Richards, Bill Clear and Dick DiAndrea.
WRTA and WVAM had some good people as well.
Altoona was a great Radio town in that time period.

and how about Tom Casey, Joe Har-Hi, Kevin O'Brian, Bill Rock, Pete McCoy, Commander Burns, Tom Foolery, Wes Maley, John Riley, Ted Johnson, etc.
