Dick "The Derby" Smith

I saw Dick Smith's obituary in this mornings Worcester Telegram and Gazette. He was on the radio in Worcester for many years. I think he may have been the first U.S. DJ to play a Beatles' record.

He will be missed. I remember the days of Chris Roberts and Philip James Lagois (mornings); Dick "The Derby" Smith (middays); B.J. Dean (afternoons); Clyde Anderson (evenings); and Dave O'Gara (overnights). There was also a guy named Gary on weekends.

I think you may be referring to Gary Scott. Back in the days that most stations actually had live DJs on the weekends.

And don't forget Bob Briar. (Bob Briar & Dick Smith WORC)

RIP Dick

Bob Briar and the song for people in love. It got to the point where the dedication list took 20 minutes to read.

A special tribute to Dick Smith will be presented on WCUW 91.3FM Worcester and wcuw.org on Thursday May 26, 9AM. Airchecks of Dick Smaith on WORC and how he introduced the Beatles to America before Ed Sullivan.
