Did action news update their bumper music?

For the last month or so, it seems like action news is using their old bumpers from the 80's to mid 90's. The one where the drum beat is more of a backround sound with its volume down. Prior to the last month, ch6 has been using one for the last 10+ years inwhich the drum beat was as loud, if not louder then the rest of the music.

The intro and close remain the same.

Come on now, you can't be serious. Who cares? If anyone is still watching local TV news heading into 2009, you have only yourself to blame. TV newscasts, self-absorbed and celebrity obsessed (who cares about celebrities?), are simply awful programs, headed by snaky news directors in just about every major market in the country - the continuation of the dumbing down of our culture. There are so many other ways to stay informed and be entertained in the Philly region than by watching a local TV news program. What is it with natives and Action News? Why are you watching such shallow, artificial programming? Again, it's simply awful.

You seemed to care enough to read and respond to his question, even though the response wasn't what they were looking for.

Whoa!! Yo Bro, Chill. It's gonna be OK. Life will go on.

Good thing for that new-fangled off switch, then. And those of us who do see the value of local news coverage while still acknowledging its shortcomings can keep discussing it.

Yep, my life goes on just fine each day and hey, I don't watch local TV news. What a concept. Hooray for me. That's the beauty of these boards to spark different opinions, that's why I responded, and the beauty of simply being able not to watch the programming by using the off switch. Thanks for your inspired comments. But come on, can anyone tell me why local newscasts are NOT awful programming? I have not been able to receive a fair answer in my discussions with folks not only in the Philly market, but around the country.

Can anyone also answer what I posed about Philly natives and Action News? What is so compelling about that programming? I do not understand it. In the digital age we live in, Action News is like reading a daily printed newspaper. They're both passe. So now I'll just go on and continue to live my life.
Thanks again for the comments.

Wow, I better cancel my Philadelphia Inquirer and USA Today subscriptions. There is just something about sitting down and reading newspapers even in this digital age.

I moved to the Philly area when I was 9 in 1978 and guess what, Jim Gardner was the top anchor on Channel 6. It's 2009, I have 3 children, been out of college 17 years. Jim Gardner is still there. Action News doesn't change. Plus, all the hot women on Channel 6 look good in HD.

That millions of people still watch local news tells you they find something of value there. As many as in years past? Nope. And some may not because they feel TV news doesn't meet their needs, or they're not into "old" media, or their schedules have changed or whatever ad infinitum. Each one may have their own story.

Many people can tell you why they think local news isn't awful in their subjective judgement. I happen to use local news as one part of an overall news diet, which includes a newspaper. It fills a specific need for me. Does it have flaws? Yes. But point me to something that doesn't, new media or old. You have no time for old media? Yippee. Sooner or later, the old world of TV and newspapers may indeed die out, but that day isn't here yet, because people find plenty of value.

As for Action News, it's about consistency. If you dislike the idea of 'old' media forms, then consistency might seem at best quaint, if not outright silly. But for many enlightened people, myself included, it does matter. I respect that Action News is not prone to chase every fad that doesn't really bolster their approach but "sounds cool" to describe it. I respect that they don't feel the need to change sets, themes, personalities, graphics and approaches as often as some people change their wardrobes. When the stories are fundamentally the same, this market has voted with their remotes that the familiar faces and approach to delivering those stories is what they prefer. Not a great mystery.
