Did Antenna TV change something?

I know Antenna TV changed some of their programs but it looks like they changed the aspect ratio for wide screen tv reception? It may just be at my local channel in Norfolk VA. Ch 27 which is on Ch. 50 over the airwaves.
 
its been 16:9 here in Minneapolis with black bar hell on the shows....commercials are in HD (the local ones)
 
Personally, I'd rather see black bars than a 4x3 picture stretched out to 16x9. I work in TV master control and deal with the aspect ratio thing every day.
