DID ANY BRAND NEW TV STATIONS SIGN ON THIS YEAR?

As this was the switch to digital tv year, I'm thinking probably there very few brand new stations that signed on this year. Were there any? Not stations that changed hands, switched channels or networks, but totally new from the ground up.

Assuming you are only looking for full-service stations:

I only know of two in 2010:

WUNW 27.x Canton NC - PBS (July)
KUGF 21.x Great Falls MT - PBS (October)

KSQA 12.x Topeka KS may yet sign on this year - their CP expires in February. I have no idea with what network they intend to affiliate.

A few signed on in 2009:

WDPM 31.x (23) Mobile AL - Daystar (February)
KBGS 16.x Billings MT - PBS (June)
KPJR 38.x Greeley CO - TBN (June)
WWJX 51.x Jackson MS - My Family TV (July)
KDCU 31.x Derby KS - Univision (August)
KRBK 49.x Osage Beach MO - MyNetworkTV (August)
KCWV 27.x Duluth MN - My Family TV (November)

I may have missed some.

One was moved into the Denver Area in 2009 though (I guess you could count this as a "Sign On" of sorts)

KCDO 3 (Originally with America One but now with RTV) - Sterling, CO (COL). First added to DirecTV, now on Xfinity Channel 3. My mom is a HUGE fan of this station.

The station has a lengthy history on Wikipedia though. Search under KGWN (Where KCDO used to be satellite station of).

Cheers :D

Wow Pat. I didn't realize RTV had an "actual" full-time affiliate, I've only heard of it being
on sub-channels. Wikipedia says KCDO planed to drop RTV on Nov. 1.

WMDV-44.x, Low-power station from Danville, VA signed on May 26, 2010.

Later . . . .

Harrisonburg, VA's WHSV ( Gray ) did start up a translator in Warren County, VA ( Signal Knob beside WVPT ) to provide WHSV's Winchester, VA's "ABC 3 Winchester", The Valley's FOX and "My Valley", not only a grade A signal to Winchester but also as far north as Hagerstown, MD as well.

For a period of time Buffalo, NY had an actual RTV affiliate, as WNGS/67 in nearby Springville was affiliated with them. As I recall the station lost the affiliation and they went dark for a period of time before the DTV transition.

The station was among several owned by Equity that ended up going dark -- while may of them were sold (most to Daystar, which included WNGS), a few never returned to air.
