Did anyone ever play "We Are the World 2010"?

I remember all the hype leading up to the release of the 25th anniversary remake of "We Are the World," coinciding with the winter Olympics (also hyped!), but once it was out there, I don't recall anyone ever playing it! Was it a big enough hit based on downloads alone? I'm sure it still made money for Haitian earthquake relief, since nearly everyone associated with it donated their time to the cause. Or maybe it was a stiff, and just couldn't recapture the magic of the original. Or maybe we're all still sick of the original!

At any rate, I was going to post a message last month asking this very question, but I was offline for most of last month, until just a couple of weeks ago, because I am still recovering from my home being flooded early last month.

Maybe it got some airplay on the radio but I never heard it on the radio. Jay-Z was right, this song is not good at all( Good for the Haiti if it made any money ).

Did Jay Z have anything to do with Beyonce not participating in this one? Good for him if he did.

I remember that the 1985 "We Are the World" was recorded that winter, and was still getting lots of airplay (too much for my taste, in fact!) on my local CHR in early summer! This year's version obviously didn't even come close to that!

Anyone remember when nearly every station on the dial played the original "We Are the World" at the same time on Good Friday in 1985? Would have been a massive tune-out factor if they had tried that with the new version this year!

I remember that. I think MTV chimed in & played the video too that day. It would also be pretty close to impossible for it to happen today to have them all synched up since most stations are automated & times vary.
Looking back I wonder if Z-Rock played it?

If memory serves, it was 10:50 a.m. central time (the time zone that I have always lived in) when everyone mass-played "We Are the World" that day. I don't recall if we were still on standard time then, or had gone on daylight time by then. I seem to recall that even "Muzak" (elevator music) played "We Are the World" at that time, and they usually didn't play anything with vocals!

I heard it on a local CHR one afternoon. That's when I prayed the song wouldn't hurt donations to Hati because the song was just plain awful. Reminds me of "What's Going On" from 2001 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPYqR1cj2Vg. Great concept to help victims of 9/11, but the song was terrible as well.

It would have not been so bad if someone wrote an ORIGINAL SONG!

That was my thoughts, too. However, the concept of these multi-artist "celebrity" recordings has itself fallen by the wayside in recent years. If they had at least written and recorded a new song, they wouldn't have the original to compare it to!

KIIS-FM played it... seriously, this version was a disaster IMO. Leave the MJ songs alone, Wyclef.

It's worth noting that it was also Lionel Richie's song, and he was heavily involved in the remake of it, although he did not appear in it. The use of old Michael Jackson footage makes it seem more like a tribute to him, than anything else. ::)
