Did anyone hear what KIRO did today?

I'm told they announced the death of that Seattle Police Officer today before the family could be notified. Apparently, the police spokesman even asked them not to air it until they could tell the family. Everyone else on TV and Radio went with "seriously injured" or "gravely wounded".

For KIRO, apparently, having the story on first is more important than basic human decency.

Way to go, fellas! You really "scooped" the rest of Seattle media! Party at Azteca?

Not true...I saw that he had died VERY early Sunday morning on KING 5 TV. They hold off releasing the names of people until family is notified.... not the condition of them.

Dude, I was watching KING this morning, so I gotta call shenannigans.
They had two reporters on it, covered it very extensively, but never said he had died. What they said was that he was taken to the hospital in very critical condition, confidentiality laws precluded the release of his info, and that there would be a press conference to say what happened. One could draw their own conclusions, but they never said it.
And the moment the chief announced he died... the chyron changed from "Officer hit-and-run" to "Officer dies".

Well....hummmm...."Dude" if and police officer was killed this morning, and 710 KIRO said that he had 'died' well by all means lets crucify 710 KIRO for reporting the news. Aren't they NEWSRADIO? Or am I making a mistake?

Excuse me if I don't wish my news source to LIE to me. So....a police officer dies....710 KIRO reports that a police officer dies....and you want to call foul? Hummmmm.....I'll pass.

Here is my guess....nobody asked the news reporters to LIE. So your trying to tell me that the Seattle spokesman asked the TV/RADIO to lie and say he is 'seriously injured" or 'gravely wounded'. HAHA....I don't think so.

The Seattle Police/Harborview just chose not to release his condition until a news conference could be held. Maybe 710 KIRO was the first to learn of his death. Again, for Gods sake....lets crucify them for it.

Just my 2 cents anyway.

So some weekend editor missed an embargo notice.

Not the first time, won't be the last.

I didn't hear it, but I'll assume KIRO did not release the officer's name because that wasn't on the news tonight, so if all they said was that a police officer died in the accident - where's the crime? They're doing their job, and probably better than the TV lap dogs. On the other hand, if they released the officer's name, that's just plain wrong and stupid. Could someone who did hear it clarify if they released the name, or the fact that a Seattle police officer died?

KIRO

..as long as relatives have first been informed, you can broadcast the victim name....

Radio weekenders.......ARGHH!

I know whatcha mean. Totally incompetent - barely a step higher on the ladder than fast food workers. Same goes for FT'ers pulling weekend shifts.

They're about as bad as people posting useless links on radio message boards! ;D

Not to defend KIRO - but I bet that's exactly what happened. No conspiracy theory here.
