Credit where credit is due: about 3 1/2 years ago when Mr. Reilly bought WHLM, I had opportunity to take a drive up there with Kevin Fennessey. Of course, Kevin knows Joe (Joe wasn't there) and all the people who worked in the WHLM office.....If you have never been to the WHLM building in Bloom, it is a radio-lovers paradise: the original studios are something that I have only seen one other place:the original WDHA-FM in Dover NJ constructed in a similar manner....but WHLM in Bloom is an art-deco setup....Joe kept all the original building but replaced all the audio equipment and furniture....Kevin was not particularly amazed at the surroundings but I had a difficult time keeping my mouth closed as I was in awe of the studios......If you recall, WHLM for years was on 550am, and had a huge antenna structure which was now totally demolished: Kevin took me by the site to show me this......so, at the time, WHLM had no tower at all.......they used a long wire off a tall smokestack not too far from the studio.....the signal wasn't good compared to WFBS...........Now I see from Fybush's article that WHLM has constructed a studio (studios) inside a storefront. Looks like an excellent picture and if anyone can add to it, I'd love to read about it..........But in the back of my mind, I always saw WFBS in that studio;....and Kevin.....it's a romantic idea, and yet it is kind of an old fashioned idea, but Kevin, WFBS and that fabulous format fits inside the WHLM building.............I like what Reilly is doing for AM radio in PA...I like what Kevin is doing and keeping it alive with a station that I know is his heart and soul....when in and around Berwick, check out 1280 and smile...cause you will...........Any more info on the WHLM building...is it vacant.....how do the new studios look?Carl<P ID="signature">______________

I had a cousin, Ed Price, who wound up in radio in Pittsburgh who
got his start at WHLM in Bloom. I remember him telling me stories
about the facility and what it looked like back then.
And as far as WFBS, it is indeed a keeper with a station and format
that makes you smile. Dial it in every time I'm down in that area.
Once a year I take a trip down to Danville to visit the graves of
the nuns who taught me in grade school. (Want to make sure they're
still dead!!!) And on the way, we always tune to 1280.

My understanding is that WHLM purchased the building and placed the studios into a store front window; when 930 was re-launched ( it's been 4 years now, Carl)they moved into the facility that had formerly housed the 550 and 106.5, and some of the square footage was leased to others. The purchase of your own building makes good business sense.
