Did anyone see Star Spangled Sweepstakes?

I'm sure not many of you caught this little Lottery special on WCVB, because most of you were focused on the Pops concert. I would have mentioned it earlier, but I didn't realize I would be as much as it was. The hosts were Lois from the Lottery, and Frank Avruch! I didn't even know he was still around! It had a little bit of Lottery history information, and it actually showed a clip of a VERY OLD Numbers Game drawing from April 30, 1983! It looked like Tom Bergeron, and there's one thing about the Lottery that has not changed in all these years, and that is: the 4 Numbers Game wheels. They still look exactly the same.

I remember back in the old days when they would do a grand prize drawing like this, it would be a half-hour show done before a live studio audience, and Dawn Hayes would host. This show was only 15 minutes, and there was no audience. I bet the reason for that is for the same reason why they don't do the full drawings like they used to. They don't have enough money. Though I've heard that The Lottery isn't making enough money as they used to, so that may mean a change is coming, and hopefully it will be a better one.

The Lottery isn't making money...what an oxymoron that is! Here I thought that the Massachusetts Lottery was considered to be the best run state lottery in the nation. They could always turn it into a quasi-state agency like the Connecticut Lottery Corporation is here.

Several times over the past few weeks, I've heard Frank Avruch announce the winning lottery numbers. It's actually a nice change of pace to hear Frank's voice rather than "Brad" or "Angie" or "Lois" or whomever these voices are...although I'm sure Brad, Angie and Lois are extremely nice people. ;D
