My radio reception at work is the pitts. Most of what I end up hearing on both AM & FM are ABC stations.
For the past few weeks there's been a barrage (saturation almost) of ads for Guptill's Ice Cream. Claiming it's THE BEST of its kind in an overly-exuberant fashion, which by the way is NOT driving me to Latham to lap it up!! (I mean come on... ice cream is ice cream...[at least at a stand]..isn't it???) I'll admit I have my favorites, but the way they carry on is almost pathetic.
Anyway, their hourly clock features a Guptill's ad at least twice or more. My first thought was; how can a little ice cream stand afford such a campaign on big-billing stations like B95? It's not like Guptill have any competition...since they're the ONLY business of its kind running ads. Most of this ilk will rely on word-of-mouth. And let's face it, on a hot summers' day and your tongue is dryer than the pavement, ANY outdoor ice cream stand will fit the bill. But I digress... so my next thought was, are they all trade ads? Anyway on today's **NEW** (recycled from 100.9) Bob Green show (now on 590) he said in one of his between song rants... "we've got plenty of Guptill's ice cream here...now serving"... which maybe has given me the answer I've been searching for, for some time now.
Any thoughts or inside-info on this very annoying (albeit trivial) ad-campaign ???
