Don't think so, as the KBPA move is part of a multistation realignment.I thought they cancelled that plan.
I guess it saves them power cost to downgrade. Not a good idea.
What are "E" guys?Sad that this is being done to placate the E guys.

KBPA will now have Austin as its COL for the first time since it signed on (as KRMH) in 1971. It had always been a San Marcos license up to now, though targeting Austin.

Who knows exactly how the deal came about or who contacted whom first, but according to the filing, KBPA had to move because the current tower in Hays County was going to be dismantled and the large plot of land it sits on is being redeveloped. This seems legitimate since they filed to "upgrade" 101.5 to that tower and it never happened. As David has pointed out, the move into Austin is definitely a very substantial upgrade for 103.5. It doesn't seem at all that Waterloo is "carrying the water" for EMF, even if it was their idea first to facilitate the 103.7 move into SA. Speaking of which, I've been wondering if that will be one of the launch stations for their new format that is coming soon (supposedly it is Spanish-language).Sad that this is being done to placate the E guys.
The "old" site was a blowtorch for putting a signal over a large area of Central Texas, but of course the new site will give the best signal where the relevant sales audience lives. Wasn't aware of the "redevelopment", sounds like the Austin sprawl to the south finally gobbled up the land!Yes, BOB FM is in the process of moving as our old site is being redeveloped in the new year. It's been a great site, but it wasn't our decision and decommission began last week. We are currently running from our new backup site in the Westlake 'tower farm'. Even on this backup transmitter, our building penetration in Travis and Williamson counties is much better.
Are they moving the existing transmitter from the old site or is a new unit going in?Our amazing engineering team has been working non-stop to facilitate this move - and we should be at our new site on the KTBC TV/Fox 7 tower at full power w/HD mid-January. Spoiler alert - you'll know the project is complete when our legal ID changes.
Yep, the western hills tower farm has excellent lines of sight over the market. Congratulations on the move! And yes, on paper one might consider a change from C0 to C1 as a 'downgrade' - but this is definitely an upgrade for KBPA as it puts a superior signal where the majority of our listeners and advertisers are.
New antenna, existing transmitter... Our main, which I believe is a Nautel is only a few years old and in great shape. The "old" site was a blowtorch for putting a signal over a large area of Central Texas, but of course the new site will give the best signal where the relevant sales audience lives. Strange for me saying "old" site as I remember the original shorter site for the station when it launched in 1971 as KRMH on 103.7. I think that tower was taken down some years back. The later upgrade and taller tower (as well as the frequency change) came in 1983, IIRC.

Cool to hear about Mega, perhaps it can stream online for now only until the HD comes back?New antenna, existing transmitter... Our main, which I believe is a Nautel is only a few years old and in great shape.
Mega may come back in the new year - because of the challenges this year brought, and knowing we would be without a HD signal for a while we decided to put it on hold. Mega is truly a labor of love - so we'll see what the new year brings!
