Did CBS Buy TuneIn Radio?

Remember how CBS Radio restricted their stations' streams from TuneIn Radio earlier this year?

Everybody go to http://www.tunein.com. Or any station's profile on the TuneIn website.

Take a look at the "Favorites" icon (favicon.ico) that appears on the top of the window.

Yep... it's the one and only CBS logo.

Did I miss something? Is TuneIn Radio now owned and operated by CBS/CNET?

Perhaps its a browser error. TuneIn is not owned by CBS Interactive, and hasn't been purchased. They have no connection, though I'm sure TuneIn would sell for a lot of money if the owners were looking to cash out.

The favicon I see is the new TuneIn logo. Looks something like this:

Other than that, CBS is busy promoting their own crappy streaming apps (radio.com and Yahoo Music -- AOL bailed a few months ago). Wish they'd devote more time to actually making an app that actually works.

They're still blocked on Roku and smartphones. Listening via a web browser on a PC is OK because the Radio.com player is started by TuneIn when you click on a CBS-owned station. This doesn't happen on most devices.

Same goes for CC-owned stations. TuneIn.com starts the iHeardRadio player for those.

Radio.com for Android works for the most part however it sometimes takes on a personality all its own by sometimes COMPLETELY dropping the audio of a station EVEN THOUGH you are still connected to that station

TV.com for Android needs to look a lot less like a web page & more like a true app like CNET TV is

And that's just for starters

Cheers & 73 :)

I opened the website in a different browser and do see the new TuneIn logo, so it was apparently a browser error. A weird one, though. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if TuneIn was purchased by a major broadcaster at some point in the future.

By the way... Anyone else think the new TuneIn logo is ugly?

I have the radio.com app for Android. And you described the main problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The stream would drop for no reason whatsoever and requires a restart to get back on. Yeah, try doing that while driving. Forget the Yahoo genre stations, unless you like waiting 3-5 minutes between songs. Stream sound quality is mediocre. Too bad, since CBS does have some good stations and HD subchannels. I'm a big fan of WXRT, and also like the retro subchannels of KROQ and Live 105. The continuous CBS News feed is also a great idea. Too bad they don't have an app that can adequately play this stuff.

CC got it right with IHeartRadio. It's a good app with a nice interface, great sound quality at 3G-friendly bitrates and lots of stability. Easier to use than the great TuneIn app, which is a bit geeky and overwhelming. IHR is aimed at streaming novices, technophobes and people who otherwise wouldn't listen to streaming radio on their smartphones. CC did it right. Granted, CC will never win awards for originality in programming (they could supplement their somewhat dull OTA offerings with more genre stations, as they do with their dance and classical music channels), and the demand for Facebook information is ill-advised. But for people who aren't that overly fussy about obscure genres and other various bells and whistles and just want a simple streaming app that works, IHR is tough to beat.

Amen, brother! Once they turn off or eliminate that function, I'll be on board for the next app upgrade!
