DID CBS JUST REGISTER AMPRADIODFW.COM?

Ampradiodfw.com was registered today by MarkMonitor (used by both CBS and Clear Channel). Is CBS about to bring AMP to DFW or is Clear Channel covering all the bases to protect KISS?

Hmmmm...Memorial Weekend is coming.

Would Mega be the target for a flip? I really don't think The Fan would be blown up.

I am seeing The FAN!! 105.3 flipping to AMP after June 4, 2012!!! Because summer ratings and they are having talk shows being canned June 1, 2012 too.  Cowboys can be on a music stations like the years...Dallas Cowboys flagship was KVIL 103.7.  Car racing can go to KRLD 1080AM or other sports talk radio stations in DFW. I love to see 107.5 go back to THE OASIS Smooth JAZZ. I still do not understand WHY??? you change a format to Spanish. 107.5 THE OASIS ratings was 2.5 to 3.5 share in DFW market at the time you flip the station to Spanish.  I do not understand what CBS was thinking on that one.

Dan the MAN!!!
The North Texas Radio MAN!!! :)

Three CHR would be good. KHKS 106.1 KISS FM is #1 in DFW ratings...not hurt to have more stations to fight with their KISS FM rating shares. DFW has had 3 CHR stations over the years.

That would make THREE CHR's in Dallas??? A little overkill, don't ya think?

AMP has been having a great run in LA for a while now. Still a step child to KISS FM (Seacrest) in LA, but doing better than they were in the LIVE format with Carolla. Call me crazy, but these are tremor after shocks (6 years later) of Howard Stern leaving the market. If Howard was still on terrestrial, KLSX would still be free/LIVE as would 105.3. Howard made Russ Martin. Without Stern clearing the pallet of the that listener, Russ Martin is worthless. He's an opening act. Yes, he had higher ratings for a bit than Stern, but he was local. If Stern was Dallas based, Russ would be running the board for DLR at VH shows (maybe).

How about this: Move The Fan to the weaker signal 107.5 if you want to keep The Cowboys on FM, and put Amp on the stronger 105.3 signal to go head to head with Kiss. i93 would be the odd man out and eventually would bow out.

A station that is top 5 18-49 and third or fourth in 18-34 in the world's highest billing radio market is not a "stepchild" to any other station. There are nearly 90 stations licensed to the LA metro, and they beat about 85 of them.

Some of us who have looked at the impact of PPM on spoken word shows believe that Stern would not be doing at all well on terrestrial radio in markets measured with the meter.

Stern was not the cume leader in NY or LA. He was, in fact, closer to 10th in cume, but did very well based on long diary-based time spent listening. In the PPM, he would have lost much of the TSL just as other talk based FM morning shows did... and likely end up closer to 10th in share and perhaps 15th in cume.

All of which means that the effort to create an under-40 talk format would have failed even more dramatically, with or without Stern.

Actually The Oasis flipped to Movin 107.5 a Rhythnmic AC station before the flip to Mega. Just wondering why CBS would try CHR again after 100.3 use to be Hot 100 and then Wild 100.3?

Honestly, does it really matter? Whatever happens, a change won't put our radio vets back to work. CBS will pipe in some syndicated BS and have a national PD, and some poor guy like KLUV's Bob Gomez will have yet another computer hard drive to monitor every couple of hours for no additional pay.

And will it bring something substantially different to the dial? Will it finally raise the bar out of the dirt by spending money on local talent and local promotions, and encouraging creativity? Nope, expect more stale, "safe" and unimaginative programming that's just 'noise' to 98.5% of us (assuming the station might top out at a 1.5 eventually.) And like good little obedient listeners, we'll keep our disdain to ourselves, and will keep tuning in whatever watered-down garbage is dished out to us.

Unless there's been a complete upheaval of local management recently at both the local CC and CBS clusters, the groups will continue NOT to go head-to-head with each other. All I can guess is that it's about job protection. As we've seen several times before, management will get fired/laid off/p!ssed off at their current employer (say, CC,) and can gravitate over to the competitor (say, CBS,) and still get a 6-figure income. If one company eats the other one, your Brian Purdys of the world will have no place left to go.

And how many times has this board been fooled by domain registrations? I think I'll register "memories1037.com" or "countrygold820.com" just to get a reaction.

By the way, CHR exists because there's too many cross-marketing opportunities to ignore...concerts, merchandise, billboards, etc all aimed at the easiest, most gullible marks out there: Mania-stricken teen girls with soccer mom's money at their disposal, all competing to be Queen of the Fad Of The Week. 92.5 sponsoring an oldies concert just won't get the draw a CHR station-sponsored Justin Bieber concert would. Or were those not a bunch of Peter Frampton dolls I saw on clearance at Toys-r-Us...
