Over-the-course-of 5 hours each weeknight, I talked to LOTS of kids on the Pro Request Line; and whenever one of 'em told me they'd won a JB105 T-shirt or a WGNG G-shirt, I'd swap 'em a Doobie Brothers or Eagles album, to get "a walking billboard" off the street.
I notice back in the day that top 40 stations always seemed to position themselves as rockers. Note the image of the drawing on the album cover. Even some of the higher energy jocks were known as rock jocks. Now when you check out websites and the artists on them you see all the pure pop type artists for top 40 stations. Of course back then you really didn't have mass appeal AOR type rockers like HJY.
How many other stations have released albums or CDs with their call letters on them? I've seen some WSNE ones with proceeds going to charity and I think I've seen an old WPRO AM one with a hippie type person on the cover. I don't think I've ever seen any others unless you count the Paul and Al "Best Of" ones. Anyone who wants this one can skip the ebay bidding and just drive to Pontiac Avenue I guess.
