Did KKIQ FM switch to Spanish?

Still the same as it has been for years.

It is unfortunite that this station has been pretty much the same for years, their sister 95.3 in vacaville has the identical playlist, and rumor has it that 92.1 in walnut creek will be the same also, so, let's recap, 101.7, 95.3, and 92.1 all the same format and playing all the same songs at the same time, does that make any sense???? this station KKIQ has alot of potential but the "gods" don't want to change things......um, change sometimes can be a good thing. Looks like they are just "Coasting" along>:)

First, they didn't switch to Spanish. Not even for a minute.

Second, as far as programming goes, consider their audience and their signals. KKIQ blankets the Tri-Valley. KUIC covers the northern portion of the 680 Corridor. 92.1 covers the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill section, through Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga and down 680 to Danville.

They aren't programming for San Francisco, Oakland or San Jose.

They program for their specific communities, with frequent local traffic, community news, and music that appeals to the audience they are trying to reach. They are targetting a fairly upscale listener base, as well as a large group of commuter listeners up and down the 680 Corridor, as well as over 580 into Tracy and Castro Valley/Hayward.

The signal for 92.1 does not come in clearly in Pleasanton or Livermore (it's fuzzy at best south of San Ramon), and 95.3 can barely be heard here at all, so having the same basic programming and music selection on all three stations is not a problem.

I live in Paradise, CA and on a good day I get in KKIQ. But I looked at FCC FM Station Quary and the spanish station happens to be in Hamilton City, close to Chico and Paradise. So It's not KKIQ after all, But sadly that new spanish station moved in. So my chances of hearing KKIQ again are slim :-(

BINGO!

There's a CP in for a B1 station at 101.7, licensed to Hamilton City. The transmitter is located in Cohasset @2000ft. HAAT (at I believe .5 - 1kW) so your days of listening to KKIQ are done if not numbered.

Impressive that you can pick up KKIQ in Paradise... I guess you're at a substantial elevation and the thermal inversion layer helps I'm sure.
