Did KYKX Drop the Ball?

KYKX has reported that Longview High School is back in the football playoffs after being eliminated last week by losing to South Garland. KYKX aired information last night that reported South Garland itself has been booted after using an ineligible player, thereby--KYKX said--returning Longview to playoff competition.

The rub seems to be, no one at Longview High School knows anything about the supposed development--all while KYKX keeps running with the report. One school official says it's obvious he would know of any such development--but doesn't.

Could it be "Scoop" Laborde has done it again? Possible he was busy bonding and didn't get his facts straight--or dreamed it up in a post-bonding moment of lethargy.

Attempts by several people to contact KYKX for verification were met with a busy signal.

Film at 11.

According to KLTV, Yes, they did.

Saw KLTV 7 News at Six this evening and it was the lead sports story. Maya Golden was reporting that "a local radio station" was reporting that it had happened. She went on to say that it was not true.

I'm beginning to think the bar-b-que smoke might be getting to someone over there. <P ID="signature">______________

Dru Laborde, the "Mister X" who has lurked here, has once again made the news in a negative manner that only Dru can do so well. If its "bonding","fabrication" or falling ratings call DRU at 1-800- IAM -DUMB. Operators are sitting around 24hours a day to take your call.Brought to you by Dru Laborde "common sense escapes us".

Or some kind of smoke, not necessarily from the meat store next door. Access 1 will do extremely well NOT to wait until the first of the year to make the change. Looks as if it's time for Dru to be through.

Dru, if you lurk hereabouts under an on-line nom de board, do your employers a favor and take leave--forthwith, toute suite, and immediately. You've sufficiently put yourself AND the company in a bad light.

Slight problem there. Dru first off must possess common sense to ingest your message properly. This ability was bonded out for him a long time ago and he skipped bail.

Coming soon to KYKX News:

Re: According to KLTV, Yes, they did.

I would really hope the Dru knew nothing about this. His mistake in my opinion is letting the two yahoo's who do that Friday Night Scoreboard show on the air in the first place. I actually listened to some of it on the way home Friday night from the Gilmer/Canton game. I knew the report about Longview being back in the playoff's couldn't be true because I had just flipped from KTBB and David Smoak (who was doing play-by-play for the Gilmer game) made no mention of it. If that would have been the case, Smoaky would have been all over it.

If you're going to do a Scoreboard show try to get someone who is at least out of High School to host the show. That scoreboard show is nothing more than 16 year old girls and boys calling in to give a "shout out" to their High School.

I also think it's funny that KLTV didn't mention the call letters of KYKX in their story. That's probably because they are in bed with the Access 1 group. If the Blaze would have done the same thing I wonder if they would have gotten called by name?

THANK YOU BROTHER!!!!!

Laborde is quoted in today's Longview newspaper as saying the two show hosts spent a lot of time on the air "trying to substantiate the rumor" about Longview High School's status in the playoffs. He avoided addressing whether the "rumor" actually originated with KYKX or from some other source from which KYKX would have picked up the information--false as it proved to be. One of the hosts is in sales, the other joined KYKX several years ago after leaving his job as a restaurant manager. Neither is recognized as being particularly skilled in either sports or broadcasting. Seems like a dangerous combination to put on the air.

The airing of a rumor turned out to create a particularly uncomfortable environment for the station, already on rather unstable ground in the market, anyway.

Interesting observation on KLTV not mentioning KYKX by name, instead referring to it as a "Longview radio station." Unknown if Access 1 and Channel 7 have any special relationship, but using the generalized reference instead of the call letters pretty well narrowed it down since Longview is not exactly a broadcasting hot spot in the first place.

Events keep occurring involving Dru specifically and the station in general. T'would be an experience indeed to be the proverbial fly on the wall in A-1's offices when these incidents are discussed--assuming that they are. Could be a source of amusement to the suits and nothing more.

DRU MisterX needs to keep his nose ,butt and any other parts of his anatomy out of the newspapers. He has done enough public humiliation for the station. He does enough of it on a daily basis when he opens the microphone. He likes to think he has a handle on things when it appears he has bee nwacked by the handle all too often. Access 1 should make the ever spreading rumor a fact and on Jan.2 throw Dru out and packing to Ubekistan. He is a disgrace to have ever opened a microphone on any station including a walkie talkie.

You don't try to substantiate ANY rumor on the air. You do this by calling people off the air. This rumor was a easy one to check out call the head coach of Longview or check out the UIL web page. I mean this was just a football game what happens when these guys go on the air trying to substantiate a rumor of a tornado or something life threating. If I was Access One the 2 hosts along with Dru would be looking for work tomorrow. It's sad to listen to KYKX now knowing what a powerhouse it use to be

To ask again the oft-repeated question: Why wait until Jan 2?
>

Dru

I met him a few years back as I did the usual
"drop off the aircheck and resume" thing at their
studios.

He was nice enough but I felt like I was wasting his time
by being there. Maybe I was -- but it was
probably better I didn't end up there.

I hope Access1 will clean things up at KYKX and try to
bring some professionalism back to what was once a
proud set of call letters.

Good luck.
